Back of the seats

I was looking at some pictures and notices a change on the back of the seats. In 2002 there wasn't any thing there. And now there are blue things on the back of every seat. Here's some pics of 02 then in 03.

It's just padding. Nothing too special, and I don't even think they needed to really add them. Just for another measure of safety.

Actually short people, more specifically short women with low muscle mass smack their faces into the back of the seats quite reguarly while getting out, believe it or not... Also it helps when people fall out of the seats when they don't quite make the initial hop to get into the seat.
"I can't get up here..." *ka-thunk*

It's hard not to laugh sometimes.

You held the laughter back??!! Oops. :-O
Were those pads added at the beginning of the year or sometime during the season?

^ probably when they added the extra supports on the towers (the yellow ones)

The new rubber floor and padding on the back of the seats was already in place when I arrived on-point in late April, and they were just finishing adding the extra supports.

The mat, and the back pads on the seats were all there for safety purposes.

As far as I'm concerned, if they can't get in and out of the seat properly, they should not ride this ride.

Welcome to Wicked Twister, For your safety, and the safety of other riders, please listen carefully to these instructions...

I still think they need to add a hand-grip above the seat so that you can lift yourself into the seat. Something safe to grab on to, as I learned the hard way that there are parts up there that aren't exactly safe to grab...!

Wouldn't be a temperature problem would it? Just asking because I always notice a rather intense heat coming from the wheel area of the train.

Most likely... there's a 60 second cooling period (while the auto-spiel runs) where the blowers are cooling both the LIMs and the metal fins atop the train. That's where all that heat is coming from. Touching anything up there is a bad idea after the ride's been powered up for more than 15 minutes. Trust me, I speak from experience. :)

Obviously TTDfan doesn't have short legs and doesn't have to "hop" into the seat. You know, it's not like someone riding for the first time actually knows the trick to jumping up into the high seats, including children.

It's embarassing enough if you miss or trip while awkwardly trying to get in or out of the seats, it's worse if you hit your head/hands against the back of the seat in front of you, or trip and fall on your knees on the hard surface.

although I quickly learned how to get in, I think the padding on the seats and the rubber mat are welcomed additions and don't detract from the ride experience at all.

The padding on the back of the seats is so that person won't be annoyed when someone behind them is tap-dancing while the train is on the spike.

Seriously though, I think the pad on the floor really shows just how CP cares about the guests and listens to their complaints. It makes a softer landing when you jump out of the train.
