Avoiding head banging

Like many people, I'm not a fan of getting my head banged around on restraints. Nothing can kill a fun day worse than a horrible headache. Often I can avoid this by watching POV videos beforehand, and being able to keep my eyes open and free of tears by wearing tethered sunglasses on the rides ( I've found this helps immensely to be able to see the track without wind-made tears blurring my vision)

However, some coasters are notorious head-bangers. Often steal ones from the 70's are the worst. Which are the head-bangers at CP, and would you still recommend them?

I read maverick can be, but is still worth riding. Some people on another website recommended putting hands under the restraint to push it out or something? I didn't really understand what they meant. A friend of mine (female, 5'7") got her ears beaten up bad on storm runner at hersheypark, and for me those restraints hit me right in the soft glands on the side of my neck if I don't tip my head just right on every turn.

I'm a woman 5'4" and the friend coming to CP with me this week is 6'1". I read that height matters for where the restraint hits your head and neck.

Anyway, any tips you have on avoiding head-banging both in technique or in avoiding certain coasters are greatly appreciated!

If you do get a headache, they sell individual packs of Advil at gift shops.

I'm short (5'0) and find that the most headache inducing rides are Wicked Twister, Raptor, Corkscrew, and Mantis. I will not ride Corkscrew or Mantis, and we usually skip Raptor too just because of the wait and none of us really like it much. If you sit in the front on the Raptor it's not too bad because you can see what's coming. Some days I don't have a problem at all on the Raptor. Last time, it was actually pretty smooth. Also, the middle seats on Wicked Twister are the best to avoid headache because you don't twist as much. It's not as fun though and still a pretty rough ride.

I don't have a problem with Maverick as long as I hold on and don't put my hands up. You can put your head forward on that one and it won't be bad no matter where you sit. It's easy to see what's coming up ahead.

I've found too that if I preemptively take one or two ibuprofen in the morning before we go and if I stay really hydrated, I don't get headaches all day no matter what we ride. It seems to help keep my feet/legs from being as sore as well.

Better yet, go to one of the 3 first aid stations. They have Advil, Tylenol, Dramamine, band aids... Basic first aid items. No charge.

Those people on the other website were right, what that does is tense up the muscles in your upper body thus reducing the amount of movement of your head. On maverick place your palms on the inside of the restraint (palms facing out pressing on the inside of the restraint) right around chest height.

I always take two ibeprofin as we pull into the parking lot, and about every four hours, I take two more. Helps a lot!
