Great photos... I do miss Avalanche Run. Does anyone have any real answers as to why the idea was canned and covered up into DT?

The Amazement Park

To cut down on the noise the ride makes, is one of the reasons that I have heard. Keep your neighbors happy! I have also heard that weather affected ride operation. Take your pick.

Mayor, Lighthouse Point

I am only 17 years old so I never wen tto the park while it was still avalanche run, but it looks like it would be more thrilling than DT is now, just see how close you are and how much you slide around would be cool...I think...

I do remember the lift being extremely loud. I can still remember it was a familiar sound from the ball crawl at Kid Arthur's Court!

The Amazement Park

That lift is still loud as hell.

Those are great pics. I think it'd be pretty wild to see the train just sliding around on the track or whatever it's called.

Smoking Marijuana isn't a bad thing or even a good one, like everything else, its what you make of it.

Oh, how I would much rather see that again than the disaster that is Disaster.
i worked at cp in 85 when avalanche run was built. it opened in mid june, on a cloudy day. when it first opened, it sounded like thunder it was so loud. people thought it was going to storm. i was at tunrpikes, so had a good view. oh that was the year that space spiral stopped and people had to be taken down from the top also, took all day.

How did they go about getitng them down?

I thought there is a hand-crank manual down or somthing like that.

That's what I've heard. No, they had to shimmy down the ride;).

I remember riding Avalanche Run the year it opened and it was cool watching how the close the car would come to the edges of the overbanked turns. Those pictures are great, but I remember not having much of a view while actually riding the thing.

LOL, Eagle!

Some people also say that there is a set of stairs inside the tower.

My hometown park is The Great Escape. Let me tell you this is not an escape thats great. IT sucks. They do have a bobsled coaster thier which is open like 10% of the time. It is very loud, if it rains it will not run at all, it is boring.

I would think that it is better in the dark only because you cannot see where you are going and what will come next. But that's just my opinion.:-)
