Availability of attractions May 21-24

We are CP bound May 21-24, and are curious about how many rides/attractions will be closed due to the earliness of the season (not all staff there yet due to school, etc.) I know Soak City will not be open, but I'm curious if we will otherwise be offered the complete CP menu, especially where rides are concerned.

THe park will be in full swing.. the last things to start up are usually the shows and most of them have a May 12th start date..

Rides will be open pending any mechanical problems (just like any day of the year)

What? Who said my name?...:)

Yeah Cedar Point prides itself in having all of its rides up and running every day of operation. Not like some other parks. *coughSixFlagscough* *coughParamountcough*

exactly what I was thinking CP_bound
Sure enough, all the rides will be running. The lack of staffing is focused on Soak City at that point (not open yet - or is it this year?). Some smaller stores and food stands/carts may not be open, some shows don't start yet, and some merchandise will not be stocked that will be later in the season. But all the rides will be running.

The only exception I've known is the year that Chaos was introduced -- it wasn't there for about 3-4 weeks after the park opened, but that is VERY unusual.

CrystalKat to answer your question Soak City opens May 26th this year, so it will not quite be open yet on the 24th.

Chaos opened the day after Coastermania in '97. I think that they had one set to go in at the point but they ended up sending it to one of the sister parks, I think it was Valleyfair!

Cedar Point isn't like "those" parks. They have a motto (Tim can correct me if I'm wrong)... Make the first day just like the last. It is rare for anything to ever be closed long-term, and I can't remember the last time a major attraction went a day without being open. Heck, even Millennium Force never missed a day (they opened very late that night after the lightning incident).

When you pay to get it, you get the park, as you should. Is anyone at SFWoA or SFA listening?

I know that Magnum was up and running the day after its chain broke, but wasn't MF out of commision the whole day of the roll-back?
If you are looking for shows, check out the "Country Hits Live!" Show. It will be running at that time.
The day off the Rollback was a wash out anyway. I left around 2 and I don't think it stopped raining (anyone there the whole day)? I'm sure if it was real crowded and not pouring out, they could have hustled and got the rain train off and have a 2 train operation going by the afternoon.

The other Day it was closed was the day of the computer glitch with the train alignment, it never ran. However CP did compensate the patrons that day by handing out front of line passes :). Lightning, the computer glitch, and quite possibly the rollback were out of CP's control, just like the weather. So any shutdown or such I feel should not be considered unusual.

At the rate SFMM going, CP will have their next coaster up before X has its first test run ;)
I was real disapointed when I went to Cedar Point last year on a Friday night during Halloweekends (October 6th) and neither Mean Streak, Gemini, Corkscrew, or Magnum were up and running that night. I know that they said that Ride Availability would be limited, but I was shocked when I saw Magnum closed. I did hit Millennium 3x and Raptor 4x though...so it was worth the $20.

I was there the whole day of the MF rollback (working that is) and yes it was a washout! It was only my 2nd day working at cp, and it was freezing!!
I was there too... spent most of it... guess where.. hehehehe

Thanks Majin! I haven't committed the operating calendar to memory... Yet. :) The only time I recall a ride being closed in the last few years for more than a whole/most of a single day was when Raptor's lift motor burned out and it was down for 3 days -- was it '96 or '97? But all in all CP has a wonderful reputation for having everything operating. I really dislike making long-distance trips to parks, being all excited and everything, and then there's the sign at the front gate that whatever attractions will be closed for the entire day.

Last year I would have liked to ride Thunder Canyon on Saturday the 14th since it was pretty warm for an October day, but it was closed down. :(

But really other than water rides on cold days, CP is great with keeping attractions open, and they work very hard when a problem arises (roll backs, etc.) to get it back up.

I'm sorry sir, we're closed. The Moose out front should have told you!

"Remember to pillage before you burn"

To answer CP_bound, they had MF up by around 6:00 pm the day of the rollback.
Well, that's Cedar Point for you! :)
MF opened at like 6 or 7 the night of the rollback... and they made us stay late because of it to keep it open like an extra two hours (until a major thunderstorm came in the area at like 9)
And Adrian- that's funny, it was my 2nd day that season too!
