Automated Spiels

Last year I was not so pleasantly greated with autospeils on some of the coasters. The most famous one being corkcrew "Welcome to corkscrew for your safety and for the safety of other riders please pay careful attention to this message. Please keep you arms legs and hands inside the-Welcome back riders! Please Raise you shoulder harness and exited carefully to your left. Enjoy the rest of your day at americas rollercoast."

Any one have any bets on if more rides are getting them this year? Can people post when opening day comes?

As long as raptor doesn't I'm happy :)

"You got your clear you are outta here! There goes the floor your out the door we'll see you back in 224!"

I don't know what rides will have the autospeils, but before too long i'm sure all the big coasters will have them. The way I see it, CP is doing it mostly for legal protection. Yea the ride ops say the speils and cover everything, but there is always that chance of human error. This way with the autospeils guests couldn't come back and sue CP saying then didn't tell them not to do something. Like standing up on the ride or that CP isn't responsible for lost or damaged items. That is just my guess on the autospeils on the coasters.

I think they will eventually show up on all the big coasters. I just hope they re-record them so they sync up better with the interval. The autospiel added to Magnum last year was always still going as the train was rolling out of the station.

Whenever you would walk in the Soak City parking lot the Gemini speil would always go non-stop. It would keep repeating itself. After awhile it got really annoying.
Magnums Speil

Oncoming Riders welcome to Magnum XL 200. Blah blah blah. Insert legal mumbo jumbo here. blah blah blah blah blah *Clear* [brakes release train begins leaving station] If you do not under stand these instructions or need clarification [half of train is out of station] please contact a ride host. [entire train has left station]

Hop nobody ever needs clarification on Magnum.

Kind of like that lift hill announcement on Magnum: "You are ascending........or your safety, keep yo...........and enjoy your ride on Magnum XL-....."

(if you want to hear the whole thing, you have to stand in the parking lot for a while. You can hear it loud and clear down there, but on the lift hill it's inaudible because the speakers are pointed at the parking lot.)

The biggest problem with the station auto spiels at CP is that they were apparently written by a lawyer who has never seen a roller coaster in his life, to the point where some of the announcements are actually self-contradictory. Why not just give the instructions and be done with it? Skip the boilerplate legalese that nobody understands, give clear instructions in plain english, and don't tell Magnum riders to "sit upright, keeping your head, back and shoulders against the seatback." If you have ever seen Magnum's train, you know that is impossible...

(they give the same instruction on the CP & LE Railroad, and it is impossible there for the same reason. Kind of like that sign on Space Spiral indicating that your seat belt, shoulder harness and lap bar need to be properly positioned.)

Please, shoot the lawyer before a customer gets killed!

I was once opposed to autospeils, but they are there for a reason. An autospeil is consistent. The same thing said for train 1 will be said for train 2. It ensures that every rider has been told the correct instructions which would be crucial in the event of a lawsuit.

...but it sure can suck the life out of the atmosphere of the ride's station. I know that prior to the installment of the autospiel on Magnum, riders would come into the station and cheer after prompting by the ride ops. Now it's rather quiet in the station and the excitement created from the previous riders is gone.

Will Foamy become the next Strong Bad? I guess we will find out...

Caution: Foamy isn't quite as "PC" as Strong Bad.

heeh, that recording on the magnum lift was kinda spooky to hear when leaving after a late night ride on MF in 2000 when heading back to the soak city lot at 1 or 2 am.

if you want to hear the whole thing

...you can also rent a cabin in Lighthouse Point. Don't set your alarm clock---the magnum lift hill will tell you when it's time to get up and go into the park.

,..or if you take a nap in your vehicle when it's parked by Gemini you get a real good dose of it. :)

The automated spiels don't really bother me. They're there for a reason. I like how MF, WT, and TTD have music playing with them. It adds a little excitment to the rides. I did like the way people cheered while returning to the station. TTD still has that but this still takes out some excitment from the rides.

Opening Day - May 8, 2004 :) 8 more days people!!

Cedar Point, Absolutly Amazing!!

I agree with Gomez. I end up getting the TTD and WT music stuck in my head while standing in line. And then, during these sad and lonely downtime months, I can draw on them and remember the fun!

I agree with both of you. I think the autospiels that have music to them are alright. If they are adding them to other rides, they should get theme songs for them as well.

Just think of how annoyed the people working in Soak City or on the Magnum get from hearing the spiels all day, day after day.

The spiels are like fingernails and the employees are their blackboards.

Now, I like TTD's "Arm's down, head back, and hold on!" Plain and to the point

05 - CP - ?

I absolutly myself do not like the Auto Spiels I think it is much more fun and exciteing when the ride ops talk but it is a good point it does cover everything needed to know. The ones on Dragster, Wicked Twister and Millennium are kinda neat though with the music and the dragster noises but the other rides are fine the only one that may save alot of trouble for the ride ops is to have one on mantis. Stand-up! Stand up! Stand-up!

Can't wait till the 2004 season!

Auto-Spiels added absolutely nothing to Corkscrew last year. The spiel itself was nearly a minute and a half long. FYI, the ride itself is a minute and 45 seconds. The interval for the ride is 24 seconds, and most employees had no problem covering all of that in 15 seconds.

...Which means that most people on the train didn't hear most of the message. With the ride ops, they heard the whole spiel. With the recording, they didn't.

I liked doing spiels last year (although if one more person had asked me was I English I might have screamed). It was actually my favourite position (well joint with controls). I wouldn't have liked auto spiels.
