Actually.. they did a similar deal last year if I remember..
Problem is you need to do the whole package to get the deal.. so the $$ off rooms doesn't help season pass holders... *sigh*

Speaking of RCT can someone beat the crap out of Greg Reese for his recreation of CP and making multiple paths along with cramming everything together?

Greg Reese's animated park map? You will have to do quite a bit of destruction!

A bad day at CP is better than a good day at work.
CPCyc, yeah, exactly...we may not give the GP a lot of credit, but they know the difference between crap and good stuff most of the time, believe it or not ;-) I love SFGAm....but it's not CP. Families and kids I talk to go on and on and on about CP....there are SO many more kids and people that are "in the know" about coasters and parks than say, six years ago, probably due to all the publicity the enthusiasts and parks get now. Many times I'll mention being a CP lover (followed by the "So let me show you just how much..."..people that know me know what I mean) and that'll be followed by "Oh yeah! I just saw Force [etc] on TV!"...so good for the parks, it gets the guests hyped to go. Guests are so much more informed about where the rides comes from then before..think they used to think they came from out of thin air.
Gas prices ARE going down, weather IS good right now...how much do ya wanna bet this month and August is PACKED beyond belief?

I was under the impression that occupancy at the Breakers Express has not met expectation since it's opening. As a result...packages are offered with tickets. I think this is more a result of the hotel being vacant than the attendance at the park being down.
Yeah but the package deals are weird this year, they only offer 2 tickets instead of 4 for a typical family package, whats up with that?

Well, the email list package is different than the getaway package and I am pretty sure there are not July-Aug dates for getaway packages.... I took advantage of the Breakers express email offer to add two days to my upcoming trip. They must be having attendence problems, because I got rooms for next week and thats pretty much unheard of for Sandusky - getting good rooms in July with less than a week notice....
"In spite of improved weather over the past several weeks, attendance has remained somewhat soft and below our expectations for this season," said Kinzel. "Excluding results from our two newest properties, combined attendance through the first six months of the year is down 4% from 2000, while in-park guest per capita spending has continued to increase at each park.
.... Ok, so its not the weather.....
But the rich people are still going.
They did not release CP's attendance, but I would assume its about 5%. The lines sure are more than 5% down, more like 50%! There is bigger reasons for the shorter lines and its not just attendance.

I'm not trying to pin this down to one cause, but I believe another factor does warrant more discussion. Being from Pittsburgh, I'm questioning the impact that the Worlds of Adventure marketing blitz has had in the Western Pennsylvania where we have barely seen anything from Cedar Point in the form of advertising this year. By advertising I mean all forms visual and promotional--not just television. Most target families in this area will probably make one trip to an amusement park in Ohio this summer meaning that advertising may play an important role in the decision. I haven't visited the former Sea World and Geaga Lake since I was a young child; but it's difficult for even myself to deny my interest being piqued. The fact that 2 gate admissions essentially equal one now, and also that this park has both animal-based and thrill-based attractions makes this a good value for a young family to try one year when they might typically do otherwise.
Please, though: Let's not turn this into a VERSUS thread.

Oh. Additionally, the economy isn't quite as bad as everyone thought. Besides lower gas prices, consumer spending is up .2 percent this month, the third month in a row. That information was just released today.

I think that as the year progresses, attendance will rise and eventually be positive for the year. That is assuming the economy, gas prices, and the weather keep their current trends.....
I actually think that the Six Flags advertising helps CP in the long run. For one, it hurts Six Flags cash flow, and I believe that once people visit SFWoA once, they will not return for a looong time.

I was at Six Flags in good weather recently and the lines there were small also except for X flight. Of course X flight was down part of the time and it takes about 6 or 7 minutes to send one car out. Superman, Villian, etc. were all walk ons. Six Flags WOA is a good concept, but everyone in our group wanted the ride side only and we got snickered into parking on the Sea World side had to walk around the lake to the ride side. I guess the run the boat across the lake but we didn't find out about that until we left.
I haven't been to CP once this year, but that is due in part because of getting married next month and not having the cash to burn on the normal array of season passes, parking stickers, etc. On the flip side, I should manage to get there much more next year with my enhanced income and a wife to travel with (even if she does not ride the coasters.)
