Attack birds??

I don't want to have to worry about being blind in one eye for the rest of my life simply because I walked too close to a tree or bush at CP.

Haha, I got hit in the eye by a rock on the train a few years ago... it scratched my cornea so bad I couldn't see out of my eye for about a week.

Ouch!! Did Cedar Point security get rid of all of the rocks around the train?? There ARE alot of those lying around!!

The Black Birds are a serious nuisance/pest at CP, and can be rather dangerous depending on the circumstances at hand. There shouldn't be any problem with CP Staff getting rid of a couple of nests.

I think this thread was an "attack" by a peta activist. She tried to post a banner link right after my last post but couldn't figure it out so she just deleted it. Think about it, why would you bother to register and make your first post over this?

I've never been attacked, but "I" wanted to attack one once. One of those "rats with wings" (also known as a seagull) dropped a unpleasant surprise right on me. :)

I've had one of those blackbirds land on my head and peck a little bit, but never really attacked (though I've heard the stories from people who have).

Once you've spent enough time there, it's inevitable. ;)

You do know, Ohio passes a law that allows you to conceal a handgun. Maybe you should carry one and take care of the rat problem. ;)

LOL!! Actually, I'm not, but I did try to post a link & it didn't work. It DID bother me (& other people also) the way they handled the whole thing, but I STILL love Cedar Point & I always tell people how much cleaner & friendlier it is than Disney. I also was going to start another thread on a different topic, but, I'll go ahead & ask in this one. Alot of you work at Cedar Point, don't you? I'm trying to get my daughter to get a job there & wanted some opinions. (She's 19 & doesn't have a steady job. Plus, she needs to get away from the crowd she's been hanging around with.) So, if any of you have any info that I could give her, let me know.

I've been reading these message boards for a while, but this is my first reply. I almost fell over when I saw a message about the birds.

Everyone in my family has season passes to CP and we've never had any problems with the birds. On Saturday, I was at the park with my parents and nephews. One of my nephews got a splinter in his finger while in line for the Mine Ride. We went to the First Aid Station in Frontier Town. I was sitting on the bench outside with my other nephew. My mom was on her scooter. A bird suddenly swooped down from the tree outside First Aid. It started attacking my mom. It was pecking her on the head. She tried to shoo it away several times. When she tried to move away, it kept following her and attacking her head. Someone walking by tried to help her, but it just started to attack him. It finally ended up flying into one of the bigger trees. It was very scary, exactly like something out of the movie "The Birds". We told the nurse what happened, and assumed that there might be a nest in the tree. We weren't doing anything to the birds or the tree, so I'm not sure why it attacked.

This incident may be why the CP personnel were searching for a nest. It's unfortunate that they were taking out the nest while people were still in the park. But if you had seen how mean the bird was when it attacked my mom, you can understand why they felt that they had to take some action. I'm very glad that they took care of it. This is probably the first time that CP has ever listened to something we've ever complained about.

Did that happen around 7? That's probably what they were referring to when they said that the birds were attacking people. I didn't see what happened, we just walked past as they were beating the tree, birds & nest with brooms & there was a crowd of people watching. None of us thought that what they were doing was appropriate, since the park was still open & kids were around. One lady even took a picture of them doing it because she was soo upset & was going to send Cedar Point a copy. (BTW, I think that by them doing that to the birds, it made things worse as far as the birds attacking.)

So its like I said, humans vs. birds, which is more important to CP? I'm not an animal rights activist like some seem to be in this thread, but if I was at the park seeing this attack and then watching them take the nest out, I would have applauded them. That's called, customer service.

Who is "none of us" that were thinking it wasn't appropriate? Was that just you and your group plus maybe one lady you talked to about sending a ridiculous complaint with the picture? I bet there wasn't many people trying to act like animal activists. Also, I'm pretty sure CP is aware what they did with the nest so I doubt you'll be taken seriously sending in a picture with a complaint about it.

Hehe... now now... CP has a no weapons policy. Besides, I carry +P hollow points, and I think those would make a seagull explode. Not only that, but I've never been a hunter - I just can't see killing an animal, even a seagull.

There were quite a few people who didn't think that it was appropriate. As a matter of fact, when we asked a lady in the crowd what was going on , she told me to go up & tell them that I was from PETA & ask them what they were doing. (That was ironic in the post about me being PETA!!LOL!!) I don't have the pic. It was a stranger that took it. Like I said, I wish I would have had my video camera so that I could have won some money on America's Funniest Videos. (If it's even still on.) BTW, have you ever heard of the Audubon Society?

Yes. The incident happened just before 7 pm.

I'm not condoning what CP did to the nest. I wasn't there when it happened. Since the day was almost over, I agree that they could have waited until the park was closed.

I was there when my mom was attacked, though. I didn't have any time to respond. My mom was on an electric scooter and she couldn't get away fast enough from the bird. She has very bad knees, and if she hadn't been on it, she could have hurt herself trying to get away. Plus, my seven year old nephew was also right there. And there were a lot of people on the walkway. It's pretty ironic that a bird nest could cause an attack right outside a First Aid Station.

Anyway, as I mentioned in my previous post, I'm still glad that they took care of the problem. We've had passes for many years. We camp at CP several times each year, too. We've had a number of complaints over the years, and I'm glad that they actually listened for a change, and they did it right away, too.

This is becomming stupid. Apparently she don't understand where everyone is comming from when they state their opinion. CP did what they thought was best for their "paying customers". If birds are injuring people while at the park CP should take action. I mean come on these are people putting cash in their pockets not the birds.

Honestly, do you think they monitor those trees watching for nests? I seriouslly doubt it.

As for the kids watching...if they were small enough and the parents didnt like it then they should have taken the kids away from the area plain and simple. They did what they had to do and for that i say good job. Thank You for looking out for us paying customers CP!

Now can we end this atrosity of a thread?

We also get season passes every year & camp at Cedar Point. I've never had a complaint until this incident. Actually, I usually only have positive things to say!!
