Anything Goes Forum

Walt can I suggest that you add an "Anything Goes" forum to CP Place. This way people could talk about anything from American Idol and Sports to whats your favorite beer. I think this might cut down on some of the garbage arguments (3 pages about a fence) that takes up the forums during down times when there is nothing else relevent to CP to talk about.

I think we've seen that suggestion before and the reply was, this is a Cedar Point forum to talk about Cedar Point, if you want to talk about other things go to a different forum for it.

But those '3 pages about a fence' were about the Maverick fence. Last I checked, Maverick had a little something to do with CP.

This is too funny....

No, I always smoked Marlboros and actually quit over a year ago.

I wasn't serious about the the cigarette discussion.

nor was I ;)

I have always thought this was a good idea seeing as we are a community.

If you go to bf2s.com you will see that they have created a huge community that has topics on just about everything. But I doubt this vision is shared by Walt or Jeff. Furthermore when you create such a vast amount of topics there is a bigger risk of conflict, but on the upside there can be great discussion.

The best option for a discussion with someone is going to be to use IMs or PMs in this situation.

Maybe someone with more ambition than me could start, with Walt and Jeff's permission of course, their own forum community that was separate from this website for off CP/GL discussion and link it in their signature, with Walt and Jeff's permission of course.

How about a forum for Cedar Fair? We could talk about news on the entire company and other parks.

Sometimes forums need to change with time. Just like everything else in the world. Like people have said, there's definitely a "community" here, so I've always been a fan of adding other forums to talk about things not necessarily related to CP (or semi-related). Its hard to jump all over the forums and keep track for every single thing someone is interested. Plus, I've tried to get into coasterbuzz and I just can't. Its either the people or the forum layout/design. But, I don't like it as much as I do PB. I doubt it will ever happen, but I like the idea of some "other" forums.

While the idea sounds great, I can only imagine the junk and heated debates that come out of a "anything goes" forum. We're all CP fans here and we get at eachother at times. We're not all car/Playstation/Xbox/Nintendo/etc. fans, just imagine how we'll get along then.

Loopy, ask and you shall receive. I actually set up a forum for this purpose, but never got around to linking to it in my signature. You can find the link at the end of my last post in the following thread for the time being.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

This web site covers a niche. Once we move outside that niche, we run the risk of losing focus and going too thin. I don't want this to be GeneralBuzz. There's plenty of sites out there for whatever you want to discuss, but we're going to just worry about Cedar Point (with the occasional 'outside-the-lines' discussion).

I couldn't agree more with Walt. One of the biggest reasons I enjoy coasterbuzz and pointbuzz is that we come here for only one thing...park and coaster talk.

If you want to discuss something else then just go to any of the billion or so sites that already do that ad nauseum.

Coasterbuzz looks great, but I'm lucky to sneak away a few minutes every other day to read on here.

I personally appreciate the balance of on and semi-off topic discussions we have around these parts. It gives us a chance to get to know each other on levels other than CP, while keeping us on a common ground.

I think it's perfect the way it is.

Loopy's avatar

Actually I agree that we don't need another general topic forum here but I do have one request for, I'm guessing, Jeff.

Can we please have a section just for "news" posts so they don't get lost among all the other 45 threads talking about the weather and testing.

The new version of the site will feature better handling of news discussion. The posting of news stories in the forum is to provide a place to discuss news in the meantime, though it's been a long "temporary" measure.
