Anyone know what made windseeker break today?

Pete I can say that isnt true.It actually all depends on what component the downtime occured from. Computer errors like not detecting a train over the course of multiple runs can be a major problem on a rollercoaster. We didnt have any injuries the state was contacted and had to recertify a certain ride in 2008. The ride ran with 2 trains had to be certified to run 3 again.

I'm more so questioning why they are continuing to add Windseekers to most CF parks if it hasn't been a smashing success?

I guess I just don't agree that every ride needs to be a smashing success in order to be worthwhile. We are talking about a relatively modest investment after all.

A ride like MaxAir, which I also feel has been plagued by issues and downtime, is at least a smash hit with the general public.

Does anyone know how much MaxAir cost? I've not been able to find that info, and I'm curious as to the popularity-to-cost ratio.

I wonder if WindSeeker's lack of popularity, at least at CP, has anything to do with its location, tucked away in that corner.

It scares off the observation tower audience and disappoints the MaxAir crowd.

I do agree that the combination of height and moderate thrill is quite odd. I wonder if someone other than Kinzel were in charge, would the ride have been lower, thus possibly less prone to wind-related closings and also less costly?

...I've found taking 2 Bonine an hour before the park...

I'll have to try that. I've used a combination of Dramamine and other stuff to combat my motion sickness. Dramamine really takes its toll in terms of grogginess. I've been meaning to try Bonine, as I've heard from some that it's effective. Thanks for the tip!

Absolutely not worth it. Considering the stupid thing cost as much as WT(not adjusted for inflation).

From what orifice are you pulling these numbers?

WT, built in 2002, would cost over $11,000,000 today, when accounting for inflation and the higher cost of steel. WindSeeker cost $5,000,000.

It doesn't say exactly but it says it was part of a $10 million capital investment.

Nice find. Thanks!

If we're to assume MaxAir's portion of that total is $8,000,000, that would put it at well over $9,000,000 if it were built at the same time as WindSeeker.

That's sort of what I'm getting at with regard to WindSeeker's popularity, or lack thereof. For about half the cost, they've got a ride that seems about half as popular, if you also factor in the location's impact (that is, MaxAir would likely not be as popular were it in WindSeeker's location).

All that considered, it doesn't seem like that bad of an investment.

I thought I read that Windseeker was $9 million, not 5. Might be wrong on that one.

You are.

Also, from Cleveland.com:

The company will also open nearly identical versions of the $5 million swing ride at three parks other than Cedar Point...

It's hard to say that Windseeker is in a bad location in the part considering you can see it from everywhere.

maXair's actual cost was $7 million.

tc - My point is that foot traffic is lower by WindSeeker as compared to MaxAir.

GW - As for the cost, do you have a source? Regardless, $7 million would be well over $8 million today.

Brandon

You're probably right. I was just pointing out that it wouldn't be hard to find. It's not like Ocean Motion when it was sitting over there. In fact I would say it pulls more people over than and onto the beach than what used to be there.
