On every roller coaster I rode today, whenever a ride host would push my lap bar down and make sure my seat belt was fastened, they would then say "Check".

I was not there today but know that this is a policy at other CF parks, and many other parks not under CF, so perhaps CP has implemented it.
Thrills Around the Corner!
I think it must be primarily for the benefit of the guest. The op is checking the restraints, he knows he's checking the restraints, and it doesn't matter if he accompanies it with a superfluous, out loud syllable. So it must be some sort of reassurance for the riders, either in the sense of telling them (a) this is what I'm doing, or (b) and I am acknowledging that it meet my approval.
Either way it's just silly as hell. I'm sure more than a few ride ops are going to go psycho ward by July. "Did you see what happened to poor Harry? He just goes around with this blank look in his eyes, mumbling, 'Check, check, check, check, check, check'."

I don't see any benefit to anyone. It sounds like an arbitrary and silly policy. If it's not, I'd love to hear what the rationale is behind it. Someone tell me, concretely, how this makes anyone safer.

Yeah, I noticed the "check" too. But half the time when the ride ops said it, they did not really check the restraint.

^^^ Lmao
^ My concern about that is the ride ops just want to get their job done, and that something bad is going to happen like someone falling out (no jinxing me on that).
Cedar Point is undoubtedly amazing.
All I know is according to someone that works at Mantis they said its new policy.
The other thing is all the spielers have to do it to so you can have this: We're going to take you up Check Feet then drop you down Check feet send you through Check inversions Check different ways and then we're going to bring you back to the Check.
Disaster Transport 2012
By the time we rode Gemini around 4, they were NOT saying check. We figured it'll happen until the ops just get tired of it and/or when someone higher than a TL is on the platform.

They used this policy at Geauga Lake in its final season. From my understanding, it was supposedly instituted after a guest complained about a restraint not being checked. I do not know if that is true. I was told by a fellow guest yesterday that it was done after a lawsuit. I also don't know if that is true.
I was under the assumption that the Ride Operations Manager from Geauga Lake is no longer with Cedar Fair. Why would they adopt a policy chain-wide, from a park that is no longer operating?

Being Mavericky since 2007!
Yeah I did notice it. Ha, I think it's cute how they have to say it every time they check the seatbelt. It must get annoying. And i don't really see how it benefits you at all =/

No more arbitrary and silly than the "circle of safety" zones they made in '06 that had us standing in exactly the same places we would have been seasons prior anyway.

I think it's a good idea. I guess by saying check they will know for sure that they secured the lap bars. It's something that I would probably end up doing anyways. Because if you are in a rush you want to make sure you did everything the safe way. I'm sure though it will get pretty annoying and repeditive after a while. lol.
"You wanna, you gotta, you hafta hold on, Cedar Point...HOLD ON!"
They do this at Knott's. I bet Falfas brought the idea over. Frankly, I don't understand how it adds to anything.
1,146 rides on Raptor. Three rides in 2009.
I noticed it on just about every ride... the only time I didn't was when I didn't get checked on a certain ride...
384 MF laps
Smoking Area Drone Pilot
Haha, Dvo... I believe I was on that same ride ;)
The policy is silly, and even after a few days it is already very hit and miss. One ride I will hear it, the next I won't... I don't see any benefit whatsoever.
Ripcord Crew 2002 / MF Crew 2004
I agree it is silly and serves no purpose, but at least it doesn't royally F up the ability to operate a ride efficiently like some of the other stupid stuff they have done in the name of safety.
