Has anybody out there been to Worlds of Fun?
I'll be in the Kansas City area on a work trip next month and am considering tacking on an extra day to stop by. Is it worth it? Mamba and Patriot look fun, but I'm not sure they're enough to justify the time and $$$.
The place looks like a well cared for CP property, but pictures can be decieving.
Any info/tips/opinions would be appreciated. Thanks!
Ive been there, its a nice park. I have not been since they added Spinning Dragons or the Patriot, but I can vouch for Mamba being fun, in fact I think its the best Morgan Hyper in the US (not including the Phantom's Revenge.) I also enjoyed Timber Wolf, but Ive heard that coaster has fallen on rough times recently. As for flats worth checking out, they have an indoor Wipeout complete with lights and music called Cyclone Sam's and their Top Spin is a model with Water Jets. Also they have a Round Up (a favorite of mine) in their Oriental section.
The best thing about WOF/OOF back in the day though was how cheap the season passes were, the joint passes used to be $90 so we would go there for a day and then travel to Sandusky later in the summer for 2 days and a night, all for cheaper then we would have done so buying the 2 day ride and slide and twilight pass. If you dont have a SP yet you might want to check out how cheap their Maxx/Maxx Plus price is.
I was just out in KC for 2 weeks for work. Spent a day and a half at Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun. Have a MAXX Pass Plus and worked pretty well after going to guest services.
Park is nice, extremely small compared to CP. I was able to cover the whole ride side in 4 hours by myself including riding Patriot 5 times. Mamba is nice, different experience compared to Magnum, watch final breaking runs after bunny hops, tends to b a quick stop. Patriot is a fairly good coaster, very smooth like most B&M coasters, could have been a bit longer. The park has a really small "home" feeling while you are walking around, lots of trees just makes you feel comfortable. Waits are great too, I actually had to laugh when I heard someone complaining about a 20 minute wait (which I consider a walk-on when used to long waits at CP and KI).
Timberwolf is a good wood coaster, very compact and kinda reminds me of a scaled down version of Mean Streak (i'll probably get made fun of for that, but MS is a great coaster). Ended up using OOF for about half a day in-between riding at WOF. Water park is fairly decent. Has enough to keep you occupied and cool down, the weekend I went it was in the mid 90's and extremely sunny.
In my opinion it's definitely worth going. I used it as a day and a half of "stress relief" after an 80 hr week working in an Insulation plant.
It's worth going... I love mamba. Actually I like it better than magnum. alot better.

It's not a bad park at all!! I would spend the money to go there instead of Six Flags in St Louis. Check around and I'm sure you can find some really good discounts on tickets!
Please remain seated until the ride comes to a complete AND final stop.....
Yes!!! I've been to Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun. Both are very nice parks.
One perk to going to WOF is that they have a ride like Cedar Point's Rotor that CP had back in the day. WOF calls their the Finnish Fling or something. (My son rode that 6 times straight and didn't get sick).
They have a nice ride, I think it's called Thunderhawk or Riptide or something...it's like GL's Texas Twister, but with a water fountain spraying you. Lots of fun on a hot day!!!!
Another nice thing about WOF is that they have a full sized train, like CP has. Also, when I was there, they also had a pretty cool bird show going on.
I think the last time I was there was in '03; I also went the year before. It is a nice stop for my family and I when we are passing through on our way to visit family members in Denver.
One thing I have to say...it is usually VERY hot there. You may find yourself spending more time at OOF rather than WOF. That's what we did one year.
Nice park, very easy to find (right off the main highway...and right off I-70). I would say go for it.
I call it my home park considering my local one completely sucks.
It is definitely worth a day to spend there. It is rarely busy. Patriot, Mamba, Spinning Dragons and Timberwolf are some of the best of their class coasters. Mamba you could consider it just as good as Magnum, Patriot is better than Raptor, Spinning Dragons is an awesome spinner, and Timberwolf is just fun.
There isn't a whole lot to do at the park though. That is probably my only complaint, it is quite small and has a small coaster collection. Depending on the day, it should take 4 to 8 hours to do everything at the park.
If you like fried chicken, I MUST recommend Stroud's. It is off I-35 South going into KC. It is in an old house place. You can also get it by going of US Highway 69. Google if you can't find it or want real directions ---best chicken you'll ever have (and cinnamon rolls) :D
I'll echo the praises for WOF. I was there earlier this summer and was totally surprised. Very, very nice theming, lots of trees, good selection of rides. My only complaint would be the excessive braking on Mamba's midcourse - it kinda killed the ride IMHO. Spinning Dragons is a great ride. I wish we had more of those here in Ohio (GL - hint, hint). I too think Timberwolf is a good little ride that wants to get out. I say let the Canadians loose on that one next (all depending on how the RWB incident goes).

Here's a better question...Who has been to WOF and been on Zambezi Zinger when it was still there?
