Any Pics?

The last few pics show that the kids rides that were sitting in in the back of the park, are all gone now. I'm presuming their ar Cedar Point now.

Well it looks like most,if not all of Dominator's track has been removed. Now all that's left is to take down the last remaining supports.

I stopped by the park again. It looks like most if not all of Thunderhawk and Dominator are down.

Great pics. How did you get in the park?

Jason Hammond's avatar

I didn't. Those were all taken from outside the park.

I am so sad to see this park disappear....I wish there was something done to save it.....now where are all the company picnics going to be held now that there arn't any more rides?

When life gets hecktic think Cedar Point!

At Cedar Point of course. Remember, Geauga Lake was competing with Cedar Point, so now all those companies will have to use Cedar Point, because there aren't any other places to hold company gatherings at all in that area.

Woo hoo! John made a funny about Geauga Lake closing.

Pardon me...must contain laughter...

There. That's better.

Its sad to lose the park, but to think that it was done so that all that business would transfer to a park an hour away is asinine.

Actually, "asinine" would be a very mild way to describe that thought process.

Brandon

Now that GL is gone, cedar point will be even MORE crowded!!!! :(

JuggaLotus's avatar

Not likely. There probably will not be any noticeable increase or decrease in the attendance. The biggest 2 factors are still 1) weather and 2) economy. If there is a great summer weather wise, they will have attendance like they did this year. If they have crappy weather they won't. People who went mostly to GLP and only once or twice to CP, will still (probably) go only once or twice to CP.

...which is why Kinzel specifically stated in an interview last spring that Geauga Lake would be more of a waterpark, while folks who want to ride the coasters would go to Cedar Point.

That is, IN FACT, exactly what Cedar Fair anticipated, or he wouldn't have said it. So don't call me asinine.

And nobody said that "all that business would transfer to a park an hour away". Don't put words in peoples' mouths. Of course 100% of the customers that went to Geauga Lake are going to go to CP. It might only be 5%. Or 10%. Or 2%. I don't know. But clearly Kinzel is expecting CP to draw some of the former GL crowd.

I think a few people on this site who should know better are indulging in a little bit too much group think. Because almost everybody agrees with you, you must be right, right?

Pehh.

Mike,
The asinine comment was not directed at you.

I think there was more overlap between their audiences than even CF wants to admit. I doubt we will see much of a bump in attendance at CP due to this. I also doubt we'll see much of a decline due to this.

Goodbye MrScott

John

Thank you for clarifying that.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were a slight bump in attendance. But with attendance trending down anyway the last few years, it might only flatten out for a season or two. We'll see in a year.

Now if the regional economy remains sluggish or worsens, and CP attendance does happen to jump, even if only a few percent, then I would think that would be circumstantial evidence that some GL-goers are making the switch.

On the other hand, the more I think about it, if even a substantial percentage of GL customers jump, it will be hard to see it because of the huge difference in park numbers. That is, if 5% of GL customers go to CP next year, that's 35,000 people. But 35,000 is only roughly 1% of CP's 3.3 million (or whatever) attendance for 2007. So even a significant number could get lost in the statistics, and we would never know.

If its so significant, why wouldn't we know? ;)

I think what Kinzel was saying was that those who want to ride coasters have already been going to CP, while those who'd rather hit a water park have already been going to GL.

'Dunno - just my interpretation.

Brandon

I can imagine that most of the complaining was the Parks "Local people" ? ...also those Companies who have to switch to cedar point will complain that its more expensive to switch to Cedar Point and may refer many picnics to the GL water park..If so I would have to miss out on our company picnics cause I specifically don't work well with water! ...LOL But wuld Definetly go to Cedar Point any time!
