Did you relate to any of the situations the characters faced in the movie working at Cedar Point? I related a little like when the same midway music drove the lead character crazy. But most of the employees seem to really hate their jobs. While at times working at CP can be tough like long hours, friends quitting etc there where some great times too like the rides nights, Big Bash and other ESD activities and the people you meet.
One thing I did find similar is at the end of the summer the main character comments on how it was his most memorable summer ever. Love CP or hate it or anywhere in between you never forget it.
I dont work at CP. But I love that movie. You are right though, I never forget my summers at CP. They are always enjoyable. And I did learn two things from the movie, no one wins a giant panda and never eat corndogs. :)
My wife and I (both former CP employees) certainly related to the movie. Actually, I think a reality show at CP would be more entertaining than that movie was. You can't make up some of the stuff that happens there and at other amusement parks.

Aside from the heavy amounts of pot smoking in the movie, I'd say there were lots of parallels between the two. I enjoyed the movie, even though it definitely falls under the "stupid humor" category, which I usually am not a fan of.
I think that hearing the same songs played over and over again is part of any job, really haha.I got sick once from a Cedar Point corndog, so I could relate to the line about never eating them. As far as the movie itself goes, I was surprised that they set it in 1987, considering that the Amusement Park industry is constantly changing; therefore, allowing a great deal of factual errors when they show modern rides in a 1987 timeframe. Although, they pulled it off well.
A good friend of mine worked at the Point for the 2002 season, and from what he's told me, drug use, binge-drinking and loads of casual sex were fairly prevalent among the employees. I would definitely discourage any children from entering the Snoopy Bounce after the 'conquests' he claims to have had in there. Same goes for the wave pool, which he likened to an open sewer. It sounds like if you wanted it to be, employment at CP could be a real Bacchanal. So from that standpoint, Adventureland probably had it correct, at least to a certain clique of employees.
The only thing that bothered me was the scene in which they're listening to Big Star's Radio City LP, and while the song "I'm In Love With A Girl" is playing, the needle is shown on the first track of the side, when that song actually closes the album. A minor detail to be sure, but still something I noticed.
The path you tread is narrow, and the drop is sheer and very high.
The only thing I found truly silly about the movie is the amount of weed smoked in it. Seriously, I've not seen it that open in high school, college or any other environment.
Kennywood looked good in the movie though. It was fun to see that great park on film.

You put 2,000-3,000 college age kids together in dorms for 90 days and tell me if "drug use, binge-drinking and loads of casual sex" isn't going to happen.
Did you see the stories about the condom shortage at the Olympic village? And, those athletes were there less than a month.
I do agree about Kennywood looking good in the movie. The SNL actors were a little over the top but Kennywood is outstanding for a location shoot.

I enjoyed the movie. It actually wasn't as heavy with the "stupid humor" as I feared. Living in Pittsburgh now, it was really great to see Kennywood (and a few other Pittsburgh sites) in the movie.
As far as the parallels to working at the Point, it definitely had several. Obviously CP is a much bigger park than "Adventureland", so the structure of management is much more established, and you don't see the sneaking of beer and 'pot cookies' on the job. However, a lot of the other things in the film are very accurate. After hours partying, random hook ups (only to be ignored the next day), hearing the same song over and over, complacency when seeing guests throw up, forming great friendships, and the list goes on.... Great... now Rock Me Amadeus and Ants Marching are both simultaneously stuck in my head.
Obviously the movie only shows the "more rebellious" side of employees at the park. Obviously there are employees who don't get involved in all the craziness that happens, but that wouldn't have made for a very entertaining movie. CP is the same way. There are employees that fit the "Adventureland" model almost exactly, and others who are great, model, Cedar Fair-pollo employees. One thing I think the movie missed out on for the most part is showing the wonderful "guest experiences" that Amusement Park employees experience. They can be some of the more memorable moments of the summer. Also, I agree with the earlier poster that a Cedar Point reality show would be quite entertaining.
