Another Guinness Goof?

I don't know if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but I just checked out the 2006 edition of The Guinness Book of World Records. Sure enough, Kingda Ka has replaced TTD as the world's tallest and fastest coaster, but according to the experts there at Guinness, KK attains a height "from ground level" of 418 feet. This statistic is mentioned in two different sections of the book. Funny, I could have sworn that every other source I have read on this puts KK's height at 456 feet. Nice work, guys. I guess if I were Six Flags I wouldn't be too happy right now.

Only if they "Officially" measured TTD at taller than 418. It could very well be that it is not taller than 418, "from ground level".

Didn't they do that in guinness 2004?

S KK is below sea level. TTD height above sea-level is probably around 420-430.

Maybe it is going for vertical drop? From tallest point to where it pulls out and starts heading up the airtime hill. Although I would assume the total footage of drop would be more. O well just a thought.

The drop from the top hat to the lowest horizontal point on the pull-out is 418 ft. That was a stat given by Six Flags. I am not sure of the drp length from the TH to the brakes on TTD, but I don't know whether you would go until the brake run levels out to flat, or just until the brakes start shortly after the "finish line". Because technically the lowest point on TTD's pull-out is where the back of the unload station is, which would put the train at approximately 6 feet above the ground.

Sea level has absolutely nothing to do with height of the ride.

I never trust Guinness for any of their records although they are fun to read. Today I found out that the heaviest supermodel weighs 719 pounds. Anyway Guinness takes a while to get their records correct when it comes to the roller coaster section.

Although most people consider Guinness to be the 'be-all, end-all' in all things that can be recorded, they should probably have themselves in their own book for "most errors in a record book". If I remember correctly, they've had CP's coaster names wrong in the past, such as Bluesteak and Woodcock Express. Nice Editing.

I understand where the 418 feet might have come from now, BlueStreak64. Perhaps I was too hasty in my criticism. Still, in 2004, Guinness listed TTD as the world's tallest at 420 feet, which is the total height of the structure--NOT the vertical drop. For sake of consistency, I think that Guinness should have listed KK's height as 456 feet.
