Altitude

Hey does anyont think that being 420 feet inthe air maycause some light headedness or couldyour ears pop???
Doubt it.

Enjoy your ride on the big bad bug

You'll be too scared to care!
When your ears pop, on an airplane...Its when pressure outside of the airplane changes from the pressure inside of the plane. Since this is an open train, Your ears would not get affected.

I'm sure you won't get light headedness from 420ft. If you think about it, 420 ft is small compared to some of the skyscrapers in large cities. Although I've never been on some of these huge skyscrapers, I'm sure people don't get light headedness when they're on the observation deck except for those who get dizzy from looking off the side of the buidling. I could be wrong tho.
The times your ears pop is over a certain pressure change. Usually it happens when your driving in very hilly or mountain roads, when airplanes (commertial) change cabin pressure and when you ride elevators in tall buildings. These preussure changeds are usually over 1000' and are fairly quick. I don't think that anyones ears will pop on any roller coasters untill they get much taller. I don't think that the ~740' coaster than got canceled in las vagas would have poped anyones ears if it was actually built.
Your ears pop because there is an equal amount of pressure inside your body as there is outside(that way we dont implode), when you go really high there is less oxygen and therefore less pressure, if there is less pressure outside you, the greater pressure from inside your body is try to escape, so your ears 'pop' which is reelising pressure, and adjusting to it.

Less oxygen? The amount of 'oxygen' has nothing to do with pressure. There could be NO oxygen, and be tons of pressure.

I don't want to fight, I am just saying. ;)

If quizzes are quizzical, what are tests?

um, I dont think there is any risk in doing this. They have rides on top of the stratosphere, and 400fteet is NOT that high, in comparison to a lot of things you can do ;)

That makes absolutely no sense. First of all, Your ears "pop" on an airplane, that doesnt mean there is less oxygen in the plane. Read my post above, that is what basically happens when your ears "pop".

O yea, if your body would be realising pressure, then planes would be health hazards and would need some kind of gas masks ;)....Not to mention air Fresheners.

Your ears actually "pop" because the pressure inside your ear is greater than the pressure outside. Your body releases that pressure to equalize the forces and make it more comfortable for you.
Oh my dear Lord....

No, and maybe- in that order. (to the original question)

Is 420 feet over 10,000 feet? No, not last I checked. You're not going to need any oxygen masks or anything outrageous like that, nor will the trains need pressurized cabins (for whatever genius is going to end up suggesting it).

My ears pop taking an elevator 11 stories in the hospital that I work in. Your ears pop because of changes in atmospheric pressure. It's not a bad thing, nor a dangerous thing. It's a NATURAL thing. It's supposed to happen. If it didn't, your inner ear and/or ear drum would explode (or implode, depending on pressure).

OMG you ohioans need some exposure to altitude. Over here in CA, you can go up to 11,053 feet (over 2 miles up) and participate in rigirous exercise (skiing). With about 12 glasses of water a day you won't get sick or dizzly. With no water and only coffee, you'll be in a hospital right away when you start fainting as you tie your shoes.

Small Planes go up to about 10,000 feet without pressurization.

Also, your ears certaintly do not pop on superman the escape or xcelerator.

What's this about this vegas coaster do you have a link to a website for information about it. I heard something about a 700 foot tall coaster by arrow but have found nothing on the internet about it. So information would be useful.

Blue train always wins. . . . .Unless the red train cheats!

It doesn't have anything to do with the difference in pressure inside the airplane to outside, an open vehicle wouldn't help either way. It's just the difference of pressure inside the airplane in the air as oppossed to on the ground (or in the elevator, or in the car). It's just your ear's way of getting the pressure on the back of your eardrum the same as the pressure outside of the ear. Like the way a soda bottle hisses when you open it.

Here is a link to the Arrow Fish Hook Coaster. I do believe that these plans have been scrapped though. Just scroll down to the "Arrow Fish Hook" part

I think a lot of you are making this roller coaster out to be a skyscraper when its not. If you think in perspective to mountains, to planes, to buildings... 420 FEET IN THE AIR IS NOT THAT HIGH! Yes, maybe in "roller coaster world" it is the tallest, but there is no way that 420 feet is going to damge your ears, make you lightheaded, etc..

Please, lets snap back to reality.

What you lack in intelligence, you make up for in stupidity.

Steelrider33, I agree that this will not effect your ears and mountains are much bigger but there are not a lot of skyscrapers that are taller than 400ft so this is still big. Why did you say planes because planes go really high and coasters will never reach that height. I'm surprised you did not say spaceship instead of plane because spaceships go really high compared to planes.

Ugh I tried posting this earlier but I couldn't.

Ryan Adams, I don't know where YOU live, but there are HUNDREDS, probably THOUSANDS of buildings over 400 feet tall. The tallest 100 only go as low at 750 feet.
