All Revved Up...

I am so very excited.  I will be at one of my fave places in just a few short days!  I have never stayed even remotely close to The Point before.  Whooo hooo!!!  Anyone got any suggestions for other stuff to do in the area?  Got a few extra days that I will not be in the park.

Taking a trip to Put-In-Bay and Kelley's Island makes for a nice, relaxing day. The Cleveland Zoo is really beautiful and it's not that far from Sandusky, about a 1 hour drive. (www.clemetzoo.com)

Why thank you very much!

I guess another question would be, is there any nightlife around The Point? There is a group of us who are 26-32.

Night Life? From what I've heard...no.

Snoopy Rocks! On Ice starts June 22--Do you think they'll let me drive the Zamboni machine?

I want to drive the Zamboni!

However, Put-In-Bay has plenty of nightlife, as I unexpectedly learned last year...

Well, my trips to Put-In-Bay leave me feeling exhausted, nothing like hard core partying to punish your body! But, yes, Put-In-Bay is all about nightlife. Actually it's daylife to, many people are drunk by noon. I know a few places on the mainland close to CP also, Nick's Roadhouse in Port Clinton, to name one, is pretty good. If anyone wants to know anything about Put-In-Bay, and other party spots, just Email me at pab@po.cwru.edu, and I'll give you all the info I have. You can sort of call me the unofficial GTTP authority on island activities.

From the song lyrics of that famous island entertainer, Mike "Mad Dog" Adams:

"It's my own little theory about Lake Erie, it's a non-stop holiday. Who needs Margaritaville, we've got Put-In-Bay!"

Unless you start first thing in the morning.

Be aware that if Pete is the typical party-goer that inhabits P-I-B, you're STILL unlikely to find nightlife for the 26-32 set!

Ah, but P-I-B gets you when you're young, and keeps you hooked for life! Every age group is represented, it's the only place I know where a 60 year old man can hit on a 22 year old woman and people think it's normal! 26-32 is a great age to go to the island. Here's a description and some links I sent to someone via Email, I thought everyone my get some info from it:

Put-In-Bay is a resort village on South Bass Island. It's most famous for all the drinking and partying that goes on there. Some people call it the "Disneyland for Alcoholics". It is a very scenic place though, and there is other stuff to do besides bars. Places that I think shouldn't be missed are the Roundhouse Bar, The Beer Barrel Saloon (worlds longest bar), Heineman Winery, Westside Steve on the Gazebo Patio, among others.

Over the years it has sort of developed it's own culture and a large following. Many of the excellent local entertainers that perform on the island have written songs featuring Put-In-Bay, with the song topic often about drinking, womanizing, fishing, boating or just "laying back". For some reason, the New Orleans Mardi Gras tradition of "flashing" for beads, has become somewhat popular. It's frowned upon the local authorities, but many of the gift shops and street vendors sell all types of Mardi Gras beads for your enjoyment and use while on the island.

The easiest way to get to Put-In-Bay from Cedar Point is via the Island Rocket ferry boat, which runs from downtown Sandusky to Put-In-Bay via a stop at Kelley's Island.

I enjoy going to Put-In-Bay as much as I do going to CP. Friday or Saturday is probably the best time to go, with Sat. probably being the most "festive" time due to the larger crowds. I've included a list of links for you to look at below.
