Went to the park on Friday and found out that they have now deemed a large portion of the front of the lot as preferred. This will cost an additional $8, with platinum pass, to park in this area. We have always gone later in the day, usually around 6, to spend a few hours there. We were able to go up front and get a spot that was vacated, not anymore. So even with a platinum pass, if you arrive at 6pm you still must pay extra, $, to get a spot that is empty anyhow. They should have stated when you renewed your pass that the free parking you receive is in designated areas only. Cedar Point made no mention of this when we renewed our passes. We were told that they decided to do this on opening day.
I'm pretty sure we knew about this before opening day....

This is not new news. Preferred parking has been known for quite a while. There are still plenty of available parking spaces in regular parking. Its not as if the only people that leave early use preferred parking.
You could always park in the back of the lot and get some exercise.

If you still can't find a close parking space coming in as late as you say, then you are doing it wrong. The parking at Cedar Point is ample and the small amount of space reserved for Premium is not enough to complain about.
Unless your an employee who now has to park in South Basin (all seasonal employees) :)

And don't worry. In a couple years we'll all be parking off the peninsula and riding monorails into the park.

At least you have transportation from your car to your park ;) But everyone seems to be complaining and it's really not that bad :)

I sense a little sarcasm in there, but as crazy as it sounds, I sure hope so!

I'll never understand people who complain about parking distance to the gate at a park this large. The lot walk is a rounding error in a day of walking.

Except that of all the walking you do during a day at the park, that walk from the back of the parking lot is the least pleasant. Beginning with the danger and discomfort of walking through an active traffic zone, and continuing with the lack of shade, the higher temperature (it *feels* about 30 degrees hotter in the parking lot, regardless of whether it really *is*), and of course the frequent fly-bys by the Sandusky Air Force dropping their little bombs on everything...
Personally, I don't object to them charging extra for preferred parking. I object to them charging *at all* for parking. It's the one part of my day for which I'm expected to provide payment* for which I receive absolutely no value. The parking fee should be rolled into the admission charge, as it is for platinum passholders.

*Well, I don't, because my parking is pre-paid, as it should be for everybody. But I have to wait in the traffic back-up at the toll booth...

If you want me to be sympathetic that Fat America might be required to get a little exercise, it won't happen.

Love that skit. :)
If you want a better parking spot, get to the park earlier. Magic!

We have always had free preffered parking, just drag the boat over with us and park in the trailer lot by the picnic grove :)
I don't think we've ever parked more than one or two rows out from the handicapped spots when we have gone for early entry. Doesn't seem that much longer of a walk to me, and just as convenient to go get the cooler out of the truckster at lunch time. I'll just keep parking there and save the 8 bucks for some fries.
