Accident Status

When it comes to a parks safety and accident record, Cedar Point is one of the safest. No I'm not playing favorites...It's a fact. There are few (but out there) sites that do keep track of accidents that happen in the US and around the world. Six flags (oh don't get me started) Just a few weeks ago they settled a $1.4 Million case for Roaring Rapids accident. But anyway my point itnt to rant on Six Flags (which I do elsewhere), but to tell you Cedar Point ends up with rare, but accidents...The key part is they barely have accidents w/ injuries. And even if they do its most likely not in response to the parks error. Here is a site I think you should check out if you want to see what I mean...911 Accidents

That site claims that a 14 year old boy died in 1994 after riding a coaster in Sandusky, OH. I had not heard any stories of anyone dying at the point. Does anyone know what coaster he was on and what happened?
No, but it wasn't at Cedar Point.

People have died at CP or shortly after being there, but that doesn't make it an accident. Someone died a few years back after riding Raptor I believe and in 2001, someone waiting in line for Woodstock Express had a heart attack and later died. I wouldn't consider either of these to be accidents. Toss 20-40,000 people ANYWHERE day after day and out of those, a few people are bound to kick the bucket. The law of averages kicks in at some point! :)

I could see how someone could die on the raptor. Those corkscrews are rough on your neck. and alot of other stuff thats rough about it. That dont mean i still dont love it. its a great ride.

it was in the newspaper... a boy died on the wildcat because he had a heart attack. It was a pre existing condition, not CP's fault in anyway.

I'm paraphrasing here, I guess the 'ambulance chasers' tried to get the mother to sue CP, but she refused saying her son died doing something he loved, with a smile on his face.

so yah, wildcat not raptor. and of no fault to cp...the safest park in the world.

The boy did not die from a heart attack. A child did die in 1994 from a brain aneurysm during a ride on the Wild Cat.

In a tragic bit of irony, another child died in 1996 from the same exact thing once again after riding the Wild Cat.

This, more than anything else, proves that the height of speed of a ride does not necessarily make it unsafe. With hundreds of thousands of people riding coasters each year the odds say that someone is bound to die even if it isn't accident related.

Just as people die at Walt Disney World on a fairly regular basis. With a couple hundred thousand people on property on any given day, the odds are someone is going to die.

heart attack, aneurysm. either way, they both are physical.

do think the sandusky paper printed heart problems tho.

Actually James, you may be right. It might have been a heart aneuryms now that I think about it but either way, it wasn't ride related. Just an unfortunate situation no matter how you look at it.

It was very traumatic for the Operations folks who had to deal with it not once but twice.

I hope CPs' insurance is paid up! I could not imagine the cap on that policy. It would have to be 100 million at least!
Isn't this why CP puts up signs around every ride, especially the large ones saying if you have back, neck, or heart problems that you should not ride. It kind of gives CP some space in case something does happen on their rides. The mom had a good point though. If it's your time to go, why not go while doing the best thing in the world, riding roller coasters. But anyways, CP puts up strict guidelines about who should ride. They can easily stop someone if they aren't tall enough, but you can't stop someone if they have a heart problem or brain trouble. It's more of a ride at your own risk thing. But CP does have a good track record and I can honestly say that when I get into a ride at CP, I never think twice about my safety because I know CP takes safety very seriously.
