Accident History

I know of (well I don't know her but it happened while I was there) an old lady who had a heart attack while riding the Raptor. (about 4-5 years ago)
was there ever anything about snake river falls causing problems to riders? like the lap bar restraint wasnt made out of the foam it is now, or it was locked too tight? because i heard a rumor that some people were having chest problems getting banged into the bar. but who knows, it's just a rumor

There was an incident on Mean Streak a few years back where a man got his hand stuck between the train and platform when the train was returning to the station. If you look now when the train's returning they've installed a few feet of brushes before the gap becomes narrow. A rider dangling their arm outside the train would feel these and pull their hand up.
I rememeber a few years back the yellow car of the Mean Streak stoped on the drop from where you get your picture taken. They had to get a crane and pull it off car by car.
If I remember correctly when Snake River Falls opened it was too steep. People were getting nose bleeds from it. They had to go and make the angle of the drop. I know that there was an article in the local newspaper about it, when this was happening.
What? They wouldn't just reconstruct the whole ride!?! That would be ididotic! Besides, CP isn't as dumb as SFOT and Rattler to mess up a ride.

Thank you for riding Raptor and enjoy your day here at Cedar Point, America's RollerCoast!
What I wonder, if the angle of descent on that type of ride would cause a nose bleed. Damn you better watch out on Millennium Force!!!
I had a friend who was a ride-op for Mean Streak who told me the same story about the guy getting his arm caught at the end. I think that one's true. The incident everyone's thinking of at Kings Island was Flight Commander where the lady fell out.

They didn't change the angle of the drop on Snake River Falls. They lowered the water level in the splashdown lagoon to make the boats slow down at a lower rate. This, and modified lap bars, eliminated the problem of people getting thrown forward.
I remember hearing something about "Flight Commander" a long time ago. But the thing is I have no clue what happened or what "Flight Commander" was. Forgive my ignorance, but can somebody tell me what it was and what happened?
when i was at soak city ounce and a kid was going down one of those small slides into the pool. he was too tall and he hit his head on the top of the slide. the lifeguards had to help him and he had a big bruise on his head. that's all i can remember besides the other ones you have already mentioned.
Snake River Falls:
I knew they hadn't changed the drop angle, but I thought they had re-worked the pull-out a bit. The nosebleeds were because apparently the acceleration at the pull-out where the front of the boat hit the water was a little like hitting a brick wall, so the riders were hitting their faces against the grab bars. As previously noted, the big change was the design of the lap bars.

Flight Commander (PKI):
Remember the Satellite Jets? Imagine a ride like that built on a tall (about 100') tower. Now equip the 'jets' with shoulder bars and lap bars, and mount them on the sweeps in such a way that they can do barrel rolls under the command of the riders. Personally, I thought the Satellite Jets were more fun.

Last Year when i was at Cedar Point we were driving back to the hotel after a fun day at the park a we went by mean streak and at the end of the first turn going onto the life hill the front car came off the track. I was wondering if anyone saw this to?
I don't know if this is that incident or not MFBoy but Mean Streak's lift stopped last season. It was down for like 4 days. I worked at Mine Ride at the time so I remember all the Mean Streak employees either cleaning or helping at other locations hehe.

I was there on the day that a wheel problem caused a valley...
Here is the ultimate site for coaster accidents. Its is cool, yet scary somtimes. The first time I looked at it i spent a good 2 hours looking through all the stuff.

In high school I wrote colums on coaster saftey for the newspaper and even in my Senior English Comp Class my thesis was about rollercoaster saftey (THe only A I ever got on a paper). Well most injuries are caused my the rider, not the ride. And thier was a death at CP according to the site

Saturday, May 28, 1994 - A fourteen year old boy died after riding a roller coaster at an amusement park in Sandusky Ohio.

Now I dont know any other Amusement Parks In Sandusky Ohio (If I am not going to Cedar Point then what is that other sweet park in Sandusky?) so I asssume it was at CP. I also assume he died of health conditioins and not as a result of the ride (which would be his fault). I dont know anythng about this and I was wondering if anyone knows? One thing I heard was that this kid stood up on the mine ride and fell in the lagon and drowned. This was before the seatbelts were put in place and maybee thats a reason why they put belts on MR. I was always somewhat scared by thr MR when I was little becuase I relized that I could escppe that stupid bar if I tried. Well, if anyone knows anything, I would love to find out what this was all about.

The chance of you being injured reading this is greater than that of being injured on a coaster. Dont Hurt Yourself.
I remember, sometime in the early 90's there was an accident on Disaster Transport. Not the one regarding the piece of scenery falling but an employee falling from a catwalk and dying. I don't remember the exact details but i do remember the employees making everyone in the waiting areas leave. We went out an emergency exit and ended up in the middle of the ride, between the covered tubes and the building sections. There were already some people who already made the mistake of going out the emergency exit and told us that we were trapped. We pounded on the door we came out of until an employee let us back in. I 've researched www.sanduskyregister.com but their database does not stretch back that far and i did not find it in either accident databases mentioned above. If anyone can fill me in on the details, it would be appreciated. Thanks

Seth
The accident at CP is hard to find. Near the bottom of the main page thier is a link that takes you to rollercoaster deaths

The site looks reliable, and they even had the Corkscrew accident.
I know this is negitive talk is not what most people want. However the fact that no one can find anything may be tribute to CP great safety record.

Corkscrew has never had an "accident." An accident causes serious injury. Last year, its chain broke. Other than flying grease, nothing happened. Many years ago, the train split I think between the loops. Inconvenient, but nothing else happened.

Sorry Jeff. I did not mean it that way. I feel bad now. It would only be an accident if Cedar Point decided to use an inferior metal on the rollback device like on that coaster at Gillians Wonderland Pier which killed the mom and daughter. (hey, lets get our rollback devices from BOBS hardware) Was that the oringinal chain anyway? I mean that preety good maintenecne if it can hold up after 24 years of pulling Millions of tons of trains up that hill. Cedar Point saftey is the best and is why I despise Six Flags Ohio. People have goten hurt their and it may not be long until somthing bad happens. I am about 10 minutes from their now and I am scared. Now in 1999 when the trains collided on the Big Dipper becuase of faluire to connect the Trains togeher right, Now that is an accident. Just think what would have happend when the train was not going 5 MPH. OUCH. BAM. Well it was GL then and things looked a little better this year.
