About CP Place... YOU NEED TO READ THIS

Jeff's avatar
Lately there has been a lot of concern that CP Place has turned into this freakishly elite clique of people with no lives and silly allegience to the park. Let me respond to that.

On "other parks..."
Yes, many of our members have been to only a handful of parks, and they will place Cedar Point as the high ruler of all things amusing. Which part of that is a problem? Just because a person hasn't been to half of the operating parks in North America doesn't make their passion for CP any less important to them.

On bias...
Are most CP Place member biased to Cedar Point? Well, yes, why wouldn't they be? I think Duane Cahill put it best... when you visit a Cedar Point board, what do you expect to find?

On park allegience...
It's not something that can be explained. I don't know of any park that fosters the kind of madness that Cedar Point does. It's partly a Midwest thing, I think, as people to a lesser degree get attached to Geauga Lake (which is why they hate the name change) and PKI (which is why they grow tired of the movie tie-ins). Cedar Point is a part of people's lives, something they cling to.

On ragging on people...
Yeah, I do it, but generally to the same people over and over, particularly those who make unsubstantiated claims about what Cedar Point is going to do as the gospel truth. I don't claim to know it all (though I do have a lot of insight), but I can smell a talker like a fart in a car. I've said it before... Those who know, don't talk. Those who talk, don't know.

On moderators...
The moderators serve only to delete naughty things, and close topics that go way off. I have asked them not to editorialize when they do moderate, but if they do, let me know.

On cliques...
Is there a clique? Yeah, probably. But inclusion in the clique is pretty easy to attain... just love the park like we do. I've made a lot of good friends, some of which I've never met. One tends to get protective of ???? ???????? ?? ??????? ??? ?????? ???????????? ???? ??????? ????? ??? ?? ?? ????? ??? ?????? ??????????? ??? ???????????????????????????? ??? ??? ???????????????? ?????? ????? ?????? ???? ????????? ??????? ?? ??? ???? ??? ?? ???? ?? ???? ?? ??? ?? ???????????? ???? ?????? ?????? ???? ??????????? ???? ?? ??? ?????????? ?????? ??? ????? ????? ??? ???????? ??? ???? ???? ? ???????? ???? ?? ???? ?? ??? ??? ??? ????? ? ?????? ????? ???? ????????? ????? ??? ?????? ??? ??????? ???? ???? ? ???????? ?????? ?? ??? ???? ???? ???? ??????? ??? ????? ??? ?? ???? ???? ??????????? ????? ?????? ?? ??? ??? ?? ?????????????????? ????? ??? ???? ????? ???? ????? ??? ???? ???? ?????? ??? ?????? ??? ??? ?????? ??? ????? ?? ??? ??? ????? ?? ???? ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ?? ??? ????????????? ??? ???? ???? ??? ?????? ?? ???? ?? ????????? ???
well put, Jeff, but it is because of the cliquishness on this board that i will no longer give my opinions on anything contained therein. you have made a GREAT place here, don't get me wrong. i actually love it here. now i'm not so sure...i just thought that i had found a place where i could express my love for CP without being laughed at, made fun of, questioned about my park credentials or flamed. guess i was wrong on at least one count. this is not your fault. but from now on i will only read, not post, as i no longer get the feeling of friendship and camaraderie that it once had. see you in May.

I vote for this as the new "Quote of the Moment"

Servo: Don't stop lovin'... we like to get all of the lovin' we can get (in a manner that would be conducive to a family park).

(...not a park for making families...)

Sorry, as a long-time CPPlace reader I had to bring that up... :)

Actually, to respond to servo, I can't recall seeing any flaming or laughing at the "regulars" as being a problem. (that's my perception) I can't ever imagine being made fun of on this discussion board for expressing your love of CP. Now there have been exceptions where people came in, and flat-out just started name-calling and mud-slinging, but those people just don't get it!

Now I would never start any type of flamming war, but I will, like in a previous thread, defend myself and fellow CPPlacers from those who try and start to flame, but will do so in a professional manner.

I feel that if you are flammed, just ignore it (or even report it if it bothers you!) I never let petty things like a flame war bother me. I do encourage you to stop and think that others on this board are interested in what you have to say.

As for a snowball fight, I'd love to have one (if we ever get snow in Pittsburgh!!)

Jeff...I'm glad you posted this topic and had the courage to admit certain things. I love this site...love it, but always felt that it was some kind of cult. That the veterans thought they knew it all and the newbies could not express themselves freely. It has gotten better. Everyone needs to be brought down to earth every now and then.

You have a great site and should be very proud. But everyone who visits this site, regularly, makes this site what it is...and we should all be able to express ourselves, in a mature manner of course. It is a long winter and our imaginations fly every now and then...it's fun. I don't want to talk about MF every day. For example, those games were a blast! I felt they really united everyone like no other post has done.

Great post! Great site! Keep up the great work! Let's all get along and realize that we all have our own opinions, right or wrong.

Personally I've never had any problems with the people or messages on this site. One thing that has surprised me over the last year is how this site has evoloved. I have been here since the begining and it has been a long year in that reguards, but to see how this site has grown into what it has and to be able to have seen it and be apart of it is very cool. Becuase of this site I have made some new friends, and a few closer best friends.

One thing though that I have found very interesting about this site (and coasterbuzz) is how low the numbers of "memebers" that we have. Looking at other roller coaster message boards I don't understand why MORE people don't post here (and on coasterbuzzz) These sites are easy to read, friendly, and are "controlled" so flames are kept to a minimal and the atmosphere is for the most part friendly. Other sites are difficult to read, and flame wars happen on a regular basis.

Remeber this board is what you make of it, and remeber to think before you hit that Submit button.

Of 293 members, currently 132 have posted at least one message. About 40 have made it into double digits.

Just a little info to share.

Let me start by saying that since it's inception, I have thought the Guide To The Point was the best site ever, and I visit it almost everyday. I recently started posting to CP place and am extremely dissapointed. The concept is wonderful, the interface well thought out, and I enjoy what many people have to say, but the experience has been soured by some who are disrespectful, even downright rude. You can't change people, and since I'm aware of this, I must back off from CP Place. I have many other friends who feel that way too, so I thought you might want to know this, Jeff in particular. So, Jeff, you have the best site on the web, and I'll be here everyday, just not in CP Place. Long live Guide to the Point!!
I have not once made fun of someone for not having gone to alot of other parks, nor have I noticed someone else do this, so why was that brought up? Asking someone whats parks they have been to is a normal question for any roller coaster fan, and isnt a fact of being a roller coaster fan, one of the reasons CP is so popular?

I feel like that post was directed at me personally because I asked someone what other parks they have been too! The situation is now cleared up, but we are not here just cause we are huge CP fans, but a even closer tie, ROLLER COASTER FANATICS and that will sometimes warrant the need to talk about coasters at other parks. I think everyone here is great, and dont like the wars!! Thank you, and drive home safe!

If your response was to my post, don't worry, It wasn't directed at you, tohot2se. (if your post wasn't in response to my reply, sorry!)
My earlier reply wasn't in response to the original post, I just felt this would be a good place to post it. The point of my reply was I just get tired of people being rude. (I have to deal with enough rude people outside my home, when I'm at home on this site, I just want friendly info on CP!) The majority of people here seem wonderful (and more crazy about CP than I am!), but there are some who need to understand that we are all entitled to our own opinions. Some of us like Mean Streak or Disaster Transport, and some don't. (That's just an example I thought of, nothing else) I feel no one has the right to disrespect someone elses opinion on something like that whether they think they are right or wrong. I think everyone here loves CP and we should be sharing our love and excitement about it rather than attacking others and arguing over stupid things.

Anyway, When I'm filthy rich and buy Cedar Fair, then I'll worry about what to do to with Mean Streak! :) Well, I love this site and I'll see you on MF! PEACE
Jeffr26...I couldn't agree with you more. You have some valid points. CP Place can be rather shocking to a newcomer...it was too me when I was new (refering to the rude remarks and disrespect to one's opinions). But don't let rude people dictate what you will do. Stay on board and speak your mind on CP. You're right. You can't change most people. But the heck with those people, most of us want to hear what you have to say.
Jeffr26, no hun, I was not referring to the post you made ealier. But you post is great, and I 100% agree with you and net! Everyone has an opinion, and if it is a way a person feels, then it cant be wrong! No one can tell another how to feel! Cant ya just feel the love??!! :)

I've been members of several online communities, and this one by far has been the friendliest and least elite. At least it's not like most of the other boards I've been to where an all-linux-users clique springs up and ridicules anybody with an @aol.com address...be very glad that didn't happen here yet.
Well this is my first post here, after reading messages here for about a month I decided to throw in my 2 cents here.
I've found the messages (and the people) to be quite amusing and very informative. I was kinda surprised to see something being mentioned about ragging or "flaming" others. This board is the nicest message board by far. CP Place hasn't been brought down by useless "flame wars" and such.
I'm quite glad this place has such low amount of members. When you have a large amount of members you tend to draw more idiots who try to bring the message board down by flaming others and what not. AOL wasn't so bad 3-4 years ago, used to have an intelligent conversations on there, won't go near a chat room now, now you go in a chat room and its one GIANT pickup place. (If I say another AGE/SEX check again ARGH) This boards low member turn out is quite a good thing.

The Internet: Its much more then a porn palace
I agree with Robby5150 100%. I have been lurking on this site for a couple of months and have only recently started posting. I think the user community here is great. Now, if you post something that is unsubstantiated and you represent it as fact, you should except some backlash. But their appears to be very little of that here.
