A little Public talk circulating..

None of this is "News to US" but, A customer of mine was telling me she was out at a bar in the western suburbs of cleveland and she ended up in a conversation with some of the construction guys building #16. She said they did not go into it alot but they did say, "It is gonna be the BIGGEST coaster ever created in the world, and that it was gonna be one hell of a ride". I thought this was cool hearing it from a non-coaster enthusiast. And she said a lot of the construction workers are our friends from Canada. Explaining the Canadian Flag on top... Another customer of mine says that by there house near lakeside/marblehead everyone is talking about it and are coming up with there own stories that make no sense at all. It is funny what the public will say when they really don't know a thing. the other day I overheard the story of the Demon Drop falling off the end of it s track in the 80's. I cannot believe their are people that think this is true. and sometimes when you talk with people about the new coaster they say things like "Oh yeah they are replacing the Magnum cause it is sinking".. or Mean Streak causes broken necks.. It is so funny to me.... I have heard that lots of people have been driving to and near the park to get better looks Even non-coaster entusiasts. Pretty cool if you ask me.... Happy Holidays all. We are all getting the present of the year in my book....

Just the track, the wind, and the speed.

I have to agree with you on the present. I think it's hilarious what non-enthusiest say. Interesting story, and I've been through kind of the same thing because my dad used to work in Canada and still has lots of friends up there who talk about it to him... who hasn't ridden a roller coaster in two years (his last being Millenium Force 3 times in a row - I guess you could call it his last 'hurrah')

Non-enthusiasts? Funny? I'm sorry--the know-it-alls got 'em beat hands down. Have you been reading this forum lately?

The CPlaya 100--6 days, 9 parks, 47 coasters, 2037 miles and a winner.....LoCoSuMo.

Too true 'Playa.

An example, "CP is spoiling us!" That is a good one. How much is a ticket these days?

The best that I have heard is that the first year Gemini was around, one of the trains came off the WOODEN track, that's why it was switched to a steel track.

Some people just like to hear themselves talk.

The best thing about Six Flags "Worlds of Adventure" is that Cedar Point is nearby!

See what I mean? It's hilarious what non-enthusiests say. Not for comedic value (like, haha, that's witty and funny), but more in a "oh my gosh, did you just say that?" kind of way.

If you took the "they spoil us" seriously, then I need to be more blunt with my sarcasm...

Everyone who rides coasters is an enthusiast.. its the people who sit and watch the webcams every hour that i like to call coaster dorks.. haha.

I find it funny when people run up to me in the halls and go ''I know you're obsessed with Cedar Point so I just wanted to let you know that they're building a new ride!"

'02 Trips to CP:31 (never enough)

The only reason these stupid rumors get out is because people don't think the rides are very safe due to several dateline reports and a disgruntled little senator.

Wow, coaster dorks, heh. Glad I ain't one of those, I haven't even looked at the webcam since it has been topped off.

Here is a story about the whole "Magnum is sinking" rumor:

I was standing in line for Viper at Six Flags Great America, and somehow got into a chat with two high school girls from Toledo. We talked about Raging Bull, and then I asked if they had been on Magnum, seeing as if they were from Toledo, I figured they had. Sure enough, they had "conquered the Magnum", but one of them said that "I heard the ride was going to be torn down soon because it is sinking. Apperintly the ground that they built it on wasn't able to support it." I just laughed and told them the truth.

Can you believe that something started as an April Fools joke about ten years ago is still terrifying people today?
I laughed when I saw that question (is magnum sinking?) in the FAQ on cedarpoint.com :)

I, often, wonder if someone from the "CP Brass" doesn't start these rumors. Think about it. It adds to the fear factor, thus attracting more patrons to the park with the hopes that they'll see some "eveidence". Then when they get there, and realize it "hasn't fallen yet", they figure that they may as well ride it before it topples over into the lake, like the Space Spiral did. I'm sure you've all heard that one, too.

True story about the Space Spiral. I'm not exactly sure about the year (mid 90s). It got stuck at about 3/4 mast with a load of people in it. They were there pretty much all day. The SFD was eventually called to the scene to assist in the "rescue". The people were, one by one, fitted with a harness in which they had to climb out the top of the cabin and up the tower about 15 feet. This is where one of several emergency escape doors was. From there, they were assisted down a wall ladder inside the tower. You can fill in the rest. Anyway, it was rumored to have broken a cable, among other things. The funniest part about this rumor is that the cables are on the outside of the tower. I suppose I would've seen the thing all balled up at the bottom if it were broken.

Can you say M_U_T_A_N_T M_O_L_E_H_I_L_L?

There was also one back in the early 80's about a coaster that was around in the 70's that jumped track and killed everyone onboard. According to Urban Legend...the ride was torn down and moved to another park, where it did the same thing a year later..

I think some people have really great imaginations to come up with this stuff all the time...

What about the story of the girl who was riding Demon Drop and when the car was about to fall, her long hair got blown by a wind gust and tangled in the structure and when the car dropped she got scapled.

What about the person who fell from the FT lift in the early 80s? I am not sure whether that is myth or truth in all sincerity.

I remember the Space Spiral incident, I was at the park that day. From what was later reported, the transmission siezed and jammed, so the cabin wouldn't move. Nothing was mentioned about a broken cable, and there were no broken cables from what I could tell. They were not able to manually hoist the cabin down, but they were able to raise it to the top. That made it possible for riders to climb into the tower at the top and down the inside ladder.

Florida may have Disneyworld and Key West,
but Ohio has Cedar Point and Put-In-Bay.
It's great to live in Ohio!

Yes, I remember it well. The cable story was something I'd heard, later. The frontier lift story is true, as well. Well, almost. A family had boarded it. As it left the station, a young girl (probably about 2 yrs old) was climbing around in the cabin seat. She fell over the side, but her quick mommy grabed her before she went all the way over. My parents witnessed this incident. I called my Dad to ask when it was, but he couldn't recall, exactly. He said it was very late sixties or early seventies. He's at that age where evrything is starting to run together, if you know what I mean.

The point being, you just never know what is fact, or fiction. So, don't laugh when somebody tells you that their mother fell out of a 747 at 20,000 feet without a parachute and survived with minor bruises. It just might be true.

Wow, that would be freaky to have to climb down Space Spiril's ladder. Even though it is inside the tower, it would still be freaky.

When I was a really young kid, back in the early seventies, my family went on the Space Spiral. As the cabin came down the tower past the top level ramp we saw and heard screaming and pounding on the cabin. Evidently, the female employee working the top level failed to keep her feet behind the "yellow safety line" and had her foot stuck between the platform and the cabin. OUCH! We had to go back up and stay there for about an hour while she was carted off. We were all freaked out...and burning up because it was so hot. That was enough to warp a kid! I didn't go on that again for a good ten years.

Soon to be 20 year member of ACE. Time flies when you're having fun =)

What about the story of the the kid who fell out of AR and drowned in Lake Erie so they enclosed the ride so no one can fall into the lake again.
