I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
Understandably, guests started approaching the desk wanting to know if they could get a refund on the remainder of their stays b/c noone knew how long the power would be out. Each property made an independent decision to allow people to check out and get refunds b/c they had no way of asking the powers that be.
In the aftermath, word got to the top and it was decided from on high that those who were promised refunds would, in fact, not get them and their credit cards were re-charged after they had departed.
I will refrain from bluntly saying what I think but those who are upset have a legit complaint, in my opinion. Why would the park stand fast on the policy in this instance but they have decided to give out some freebies to park guests that were inconvenienced? I understand if you signed up on the way out the gate you are now eligible for a starlight ticket or some other benefit.
It comes down to money. If the person who made this decision (presumably the top dog) were customer service driven then he would have backed his lower management who made the right call.
If people choose not to stay at a Cedar Point Resort again in the future because of this poor decision, I would have to side with them.
