Ok, I often wander around old cemeteries to admire the beautiful statues and intricately carved tombstones. Don't know why, but I just love the air of peacefullness. But anyway, I was in Sandusky Cemetery (The one on 250), and I found the grave or George Boeckling. Now, if you know the history of CP, then you'll know who Boeckling is. He and his wife are buried near the front of the cemetery, with a grand marker with Greek-looking columns and a vase. It's relatively easy to find, but don't go there unless you are mature enough to pay proper respects and not crowd the place. Do not act stupid and just run around and stuff. If you want to run around and have fun, then you all know the way to Cedar Point. :)
The historical signifigance of GA Boeckling's impact on Cedar Point. Somebody found it interesting that they found his grave.
Sorry it's not a 500 foot coaster.
Where on 250 is the cemetery?

Boeckling was owner of a CP that existed in the early 1900's to 1950's. He stayed until the going got really rough during the 40's and 50's. A gentleman with the last name of Roose wanted to convert CP into a vacation resort (no amusements!) in the late 50's and bought out Boeckling. In the Late 50's Roose and Legros (buddy or someone with a lot of $$$) were planning on developing CP into a residential community, but the whole deal fell through. It had something to do with the state and proprietary rights to the land. Boeckling was the father of the CP that no one can really remember, (we're all too young), and really reminicse about how we wish we could have ridden the.....Yankee Bullet, Played in the penny Arcade, ridden the Cyclone!, ridden in on the TD Roosevelt, savored Coffelt's taffy made on the spot, ridden the Leap the Dips or the high Frolics. All experiences that we will never see. Boeckling was the first to bring the amusement to the Amazement Park.

CP Kid, get a hold of a copy of "Cedar Point, The Queen of American Watering Places". It's a good overall history of the park.

Except for the fact that Boeckling died in 1931.
Roose and Legros purchased the park in 1956. With the mindset that they would develop the park residentially, the Causeway was built (1957). With the uproar over their plans (When Sandusky residents found out the plans that Roose and Legros had, many asked that the Ohio Governor intervene.) and the sudden popularity of Disneyland, Roose and Legros abandoned their plans and instead decided to turn the park into the "Disneyland of the Midwest" (1958).

I agree with Dutchman. I read most of that book last year and learned a lot about the park. I'd recommend that book to anyone.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
Sorry, some of the info I was referring to was the Boeckling company.
