8 Months Later ...

It's interesting to go back and read all the initial speculation:

The Mysterious, possible footers

I always thought it would be cool to have dueling launched coasters set side-by-side with a drag racing theme. Give it a 50's theme and call it Grease Lightning (if it wasn't for PGA).

Well, they used half of my idea :)

I think that those of you expecting something huge and cool will be disappointed. I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time, but there isn't a single logical reason to pour a footer and enclose it in an ugly wall for six months.

Thank god Jeff was wrong about that one. ;)

So the prize goes to MillenniumRider for making the first guess of an Xcelerator type ride.

Someone named Pete actually guessed right before that (in May) that it would be a larger version of Xcellerator. Put the two of you together (Walt & Pete), and you pretty much have the ride. Man, if I'm ever looking for a good prognosticator (and Punxsutawney Phil retires) I know where to look!

Whatever happened to the one person who thought it was going to be exactly like S:TE? I miss those posts.........NOT!
Dragster Shmagster--I don't care what CP says in a press release. I said it was a Stuckey's then, I say it's a Stuckey's now.

Check the artist's rendition again. I think it's obscured by the infield trees...

My favorite post in that thread is:

"Maybe they got the plans for the 412 foot Intamin that Hyde Park abandoned.....ok, back to reality."

Yup...the reality that it's 8 feet TALLER than that. The sheer size of this thing is still just baffling.

Its just amazing. I mean three years ago we broke the 300 barrier and everyone wondered how many years it would be until we got to 400ft. Some people guessed about 5 years, who knew we would get it in 3.

I honestly didn't know the deal until mid-summer, when I learned the truth from a competing manufacturer.

I first heard the rumor in March, but at the time I thought it was a launch by S&S, not Intamin.

Jeff, was that Arrow? Is that really how you found out? Another company told you? And Gemini, how did you find out?

Why in God's name would I say which one? I'd like to continue hearing from them.

At the beginning of the summer I posted:

"You know, there's something to be said about a prevailing "zeitgeist" when it comes to stuff like this, as with many things in popular culture. In other words, a confluence of opinions, trends, recent events, etc., that seem to point to a particluar direction. Not something that you can readily analyze, but more easily "feel" ...

Like before MF was announced - I know clues were out there, but even aside from that it seemed there was a collective "imagining" of what was to come. If there is any validity to this admittedly airy-fairy theory, based on what I've heard and read the Magic Zeitgeist 8-Ball says:

Sit-down launched Intamin coaster, a la Xcelerator.

And there you have it. If I'm wrong, blame yourselves."

Now, unfortunately as if I was wrong it was not my fault, given that I was right I can fairly claim no credit either ...
