A steak at Outback isn't even close to being on the same level as Bay Harbor. To the uncultivated palette, it may taste the same, but the texture, cooking process and overall quality of the meat is only matched/outdone by the higher end restaurants such as Ruth's Chris and Fleur De Lys. The latter charges around $50 for a quality strip and you cannot order it well done. Hubert Keller will not allow it and I don't blame him.
On topic, I highly recommend the Econo-lodge on 250. Reasonable price, clean and comfortable rooms. The name says it all really. The manager is awesome. Casa Real is a fantastic hole in the wall Mexican restaurant and is in the parking lot of the Econo-lodge.
As far as what not to miss at Cedar Point. The beach is great. I spent last Saturday evening ducking the crowds and walking all the way out to the breakwater. Rides not to be missed include, but not limited to, Millennium Force, Magnum, Maverick and Raptor. Top Thrill Dragster is a really fun ride, but you need to use your own judgement and decide if you want to wait that long for a 15 second ride.
When you arrive at the toll booth to pay for parking, tell them you're going to Soak City whether you are or not. They will direct you to the left instead of the main lot. You will drive around the park on Perimeter Rd. to the Soak City parking lot. The park entrance drops you right smack in the middle of the park, allowing you to beat the morning crowds to Maverick.
I suggest packing a cooler and returning to the car for lunch and beverages. You'll save about $50 for the entire group to eat lunch.
Enjoy your visit. Its a really fun place.
Is casa real, the mexican restaurant that has the "all you can eat tacos"?
We went to a mexican restaurant years ago, and can't remember where it was. All we can remember is that the food was great, and the all you can eat tacos.
And that steak we had at bay harbor, was not as good as the steak we had at outback. It was not a bad steak, just not as good as other steak restaurants. I guess when you eat there, you pay for the view. It had a really nice view of the marina.
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
If you're interested in camping, a nice place is East Harbor State Park. It's simple, but have been going there since I was a kid and is a nice place to sit around a fire, have a nice cold beverage....not beer........right. All the times I've been there it's very quiet at night, no rowdys, friendly rangers and staff. Shower houses, laundry, all that good stuff. 21 bucks a night, and is about 30 mins drive to Cedar Point.
I don't drive far to get there but don't stay overnight these days so I can't add to the restaurant conversation, but make sure you get some saltwater taffy from cedar point before you leave. No it's not salty like it sounds. It's on the right hand side of the midway if you're leaving the park. You'll thank me later :)
80+ coasters and counting
Wow, Such great advice!! I'm still trying to determine if staying on site is the way to go or not. I figure the cost will be much better when split 4 ways for the room.
Has anyone ever stayed at the Maple Inn? How far is it from the park? It's really gotten some great reviews as far as being a bang for the buck.
We aren't too interested in camping. Might be too much trouble for the 3 days we're there.
I'm low maintenance for this trip..give me a clean bed, hot shower and a cooler full of snacks and beer and I'm happy!
Any adult nightlife close to the park??
I thought I mentioned the Maples in this topic already, but I guess I didn't. I've stayed there many times, and we're staying there again this coming week. Highly recommended.
If you *HAVE* to eat at the park eat at Panda Express (located infront of Millennium) or Happy Friar. (Located across from Gemini.)

The Johnsonville brat cart over by the IMAX theater has a good deal. $5.99 for a large dog, small bag of chips and a small can of pop. It's my meal of choice, if I have a choice.

::blushes::
Holy crap! I can't believed I typed that. Yes, sometimes I still think of the theater as the 'IMAX'. Guess that dates me a bit. :)

I have no problem paying the food prices at Bay Harbor. The food is fantastic and the prices are pretty comparable to a nice establishment in a major city.
Granted they're not Lola (mental note, time to go again). But it is, without a doubt, the best food in Sandusky.
As for the Bayshore place. Their crackdown on the rules actually has to do with their wish to keep their KOA status. If you looked into it, you'd find there are alot of rules to be able to put up the KOA in front of your campsite. Some places enforce it, some don't.
