24 hour cedar point

who thinks cedar point should be open for 24 hours.they can make alot of money then.one day in june, one day in july, one day in aug, could you see your self on the MF at 3:00a.m. fun fun!!

I like this topic already. Yes, I am a night rider by nature. I think riding coasters at night is the best coaster addiction one could have. If you disagree, speak now or forever hold your peace. I think coastermania should take place through the night

Please wait till the ride comes to a complete
stop!
You also have to think of this from an employee's point of view. Just working from open to close places incredible stress on them. There are also countless maintinance conflicts with this too. Plus the employees living on point would never get any sleep! They are people too...
I think it would be cool!!! Although penly has a point on people trying to sleep.Even people in the Breakeers probably could hear the noise too!!

i agree with Chris, if this were to happen you would see some mighty cranky employees around.
plus most people show up at 9 A.M when the gates open and usually are beat by the time 10 or 12 rolls around. but then again there's the speed users and this would be perfect for them!!!

I too love night riding but agree with Chris that this is not feasible!! There are too many maintenance issues which need to be tended too, as well as restriction issues...Each ride is a lot of work to keep going and requires a number of off hours maintenance to keep it going throughout the summer..Although Coastermania would be nice through the midnight hours..No crowds then..They should try that one night a yr!!

I agree this is not feasible, but it reminds me of an amusing story. Two years, I was at CP on a Tuesday, in early May. So the park was only open to 10:00 (If I remember correctly). Anyway, I had lost my car keys on the Magnum (one of the bunny hills) and was waiting in the parking lot for a friend of mine to drive up with my spare keys. It was after 12:00 and this guy comes walking across the parking lot. He is wearing a backpack and looks like he has been hiking for a week straight without a shower. He walks up and asks me if the park is still open. I bet he wished CP was open 24 hours!
As an employee, I could honestly say you would not want to be in that Park if we were forced to be open 24 hours, even if it was just one day.

I would think that they would rotate hours. Not just make everyone say up

...We hope you have a great day here at Cedar Point America's Rockin' Roller Coast

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!!!

I don't think that they would schedule a person a 24hour shift, It would probably be run like any 24 hour a day operation, like at a factory with an A shift B shift and C shift. I think the only thing that would make it unfeasable is maintenance

Dole,
Sure, that would be the expected thing to do, but I'm sure some employees (like supervisors/team leaders) would possibly be expected to work the whole operating day. I've worked several 18-hour O-Cs before (not by my own choosing, either). I'm sure we could all tell you about staffing levels too (hey Dave, care to comment? :)) BUT on the other hand, from a guest's POV, it's a cool idea!

Yea, from a guest's POV, its great. (Go after dinner-stay until 3AM-stay out of sun) I think CP and maybe some unions might disagree..

Hometown parks: Kennywood, Cedar Point!
101 days until the real "Millennium
i agree that it would be awesome to see, a worker shift would have to be aranged, I don't se CP doing that though.

Welcome back Millennium Force riders...We all want to know how was your RIDE!!!!!
Not only employee stress, but if the park is open 24hrs people are going to want to ride rides and rollercoasters for 24. There would be no time for inspection. I personally love the idea but I highly doubt it!
It would be interesting if CP did a full-out weekend once in say June and then a long-close on Monday.

Also, shuttle the down-time on the coasters at some point throughout the span.

Carrie,

DONT EVEN get me started on staffing levels!

I think if the park was open 24 hours, well as an employee that would suck. Plus you have to think that there would be more breakdowns of rides, equipment, etc etc, because they are running all day long and not getting a rest at night. Plus when are you going to get a chance to maintain them? Remember those guys that get up at 5am and walk every ride checking them for faults and repairs? Yeah from a guests POV it's cool, but you also have to think about the welfare and sanity of the employees.

Wow! I don't think I could even imagine funneling at 4am...

And here's a couple ponderers for those of you employees out there.

1) If we were open for 24 hours...then between 6:30pm and 7am all you could get in the cafe would be pizza...whatever. And for that matter can you imagine how pleasant the cafe people would be at 3am...you know how they are at 3pm!!! :)

2) If you worked a 24 hour shift, you couldn't go to wardrobe between 6pm and 7am either. Better hope you don't have a torrential downpour or a batter accident...

3) Imagine vending for hours upon hours upon hours. Or for that matter imagine how many times you would have to fill up Diddy in a 24 hour period...can you say that Jack would not be a happy camper. (I know what you are going to say...) You're welcome Wagonboy...

4) Imagine how much nicotine it would take to get through a 24 hour shift...the munchery wouldn't have a box big enough to cart all that cash! Oh nevermind, I forgot it would probably be closed like usual! :)

and finally...

5) Imagine going on your split only to remember that you cannot visit Louie...you have to be back at work in 4 hours!

Well after writing this, I would have to vote no...

For the sanity sake of the employees NO WAY would I want to see CP open 24. The only good thing about it would be possibly night shift diff (since I am really unsure and doubtful they get it now?) Let's remember the bugs that love to come out at dusk and dark-also seeing how some of my fellow riders look after 9 or 10 hours in the park (myself included) it was be too scary to see how they looked after riding for hours and hours.
The longest I have ridden/spent time at CP is for Coastermanias-getting there @ 5am-and not leaving the park again until almost 2am (when they finally threw me out) and honestly-my butt was dragging my the end of the day-
proving that MAYBE I could indeed say "enough"
after so many hours.
Anyone who has had the "pleasure" of seeing what goes on after hours @ CP would be amazed-the clean up-the gathering of trash-the final sweeping-the large sweeper that cleans the causeways...
how would this stuff get done if park opened 24 hours? Although HIGHLY unlikely-a 24 hour CP to me would mean:
no more being parked in row 1
no more being the 1st at the gate before park opens
no more being the FIRST in line for Raptor
all very important things to me!!!

---
Welcome back Raptor riders-how was your flight??
Do we even have to touch on the sanitary problem? Can you imagine the smell of some people after 24 hrs plus. Specialy on a hot July weekend.

Well, I think some of you are missing the point of 24 hr. operation. I don't think anyone would want to stay in the park for 24 hrs., but it would be great for the night owls among us. We could go to the park at around midnight and stay 'till the early morning hours. That said, it'll never happen. The operations problems are too great and the demand will probably be too little to make it economically worthwhile.

But if it did happen, maybe they would get the after the bar closes crowd on Fri. and Sat. (like CP would want that!)

2:30am: "Hey, let's go to CP for breakfast!"
3:00am: Drunk pukes on Raptor.
