2016 season pass increase?

And of course, to each their own.

I used to view a hotel room as just a place to crash, and would have wholeheartedly agreed with the "they're all the same when your eyes are closed" sentiment when I was younger, but today that would just be cognitive dissonance kicking in. No one (as far as I can tell) is trying to tell someone how to spend their money, merely offering different perspectives.

And let's be honest; the difference between staying at Breakers and the Quality Inn is far more than brighter-colored paint and a picture of a roller coaster on the wall. Pete laid it out pretty well, I think.

When you choose to stay off-point, of course the hotel probably isn't viewed as part of the trip, or vacation, or however you see it. For myself, any time I get to spend at Cedar Point is part of down/escape/leisure time, which is something I take very seriously, from a "priorities" point-of-view. :)

When you choose to stay on-Point, or on property at any park anywhere, the place you end up closing your eyes at can and does become part of the whole experience, and from where I sit a qualitatively improved experience.

After all, I do spend time in that hotel with my eyes open.

I'm a very frugal person and I'll only go so cheap on hotels. I like to sleep in comfortable beds and I don't like bathrooms or rooms that are dirty. Quality Inn fits my budget nicely and gives me exactly what I'm looking for. The Coastermania deal for SS just happened to be within my budget. If I like it there, maybe I'll consider staying there for future visits.

Sandcastle is okay, and in need of a major renovation. Please don't judge the other properties by Sandcastle.

If you can find a way, I'd suggest make up the difference and stay at Breakers.

I just don't equate a 1 night stay at CP to be a vacation.

Many people stay multiple days, definitely a vacation for those.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Multiple night stays at Hotel Breaks definitely feels like a vacation. I've lived within 90 minutes of CP my whole life but never stayed over night until I had kids of my own. The first time we spent the night at Breakers was when my son was only 3 years old and it was great being able to head back to the hotel room so he could take a nap. Early Entry; time on the beach, location, sound of the waves, sound of the coasters.... it's great.

One night may not seem like a vacation as you have to check out the next day and it can feel quite rushed and you don't really get to enjoy the hotel as much. If you can afford two or three consecutive nights; it's great.

I've stayed at Breakers, Sandcastle and even the small cottages in lighthouse pointe. I love them all. My family has been lucky to do overnight stays the last 6 or 7 years and it's really worth it. I have a hard time ranking them. Breakers is expensive but totally worth it. The cottages are small and you have to put up with a bit of nature, but being right on the water is great. Sandcastle isn't as nice as Breakers but the lower price is a fair trade off for a slightly longer walk from the resort entrance.

Of course staying off point could save some money, but not having to deal with the parking lot multiple times will save you considerable time.

Well, I take different kinds of vacations.

If I'm on a coaster trip, then being in the park is my "vacation". Where my heads meets a pillow is secondary. I've happily bought clearance sushi at Walgreens to save a buck and happily spent $100+ on fountain pens -- I spend my money on the things important to me.

Now, if I go to Mackinac Island, I'm spending the money to stay on the Island, not at a cheap motel in Mackinaw City. (Yes, they are spelled differently.)

That's very funny that you say Mackinac Island. I live about an hour away, so going to the Island (when I go, which I haven't in a few years) is often a daytrip. I live about 6 hours away from Cedar Point so that feels like a vacation.

^^Noggin, curious as to if you've ever stayed at the Grand Hotel there? Watching Somewhere in Time (old Christopher Reeve movie) years ago made me want to stay there. Have to get up there soon.

Mackinac has pretty much abandoned the independent B&B, and I think some of its charm has been lost because of it. My former girlfriend's family owned one on Main St., and they couldn't keep it because of the property taxes. Only another generic, no-character hotel with another fudge shop could afford to have something there. Lot of awful local politics there too, with a lot of influence from a lot of rich land owners, and the Grand.

I've visited but not stayed.

One of the things my parents did to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary was to stay at Grand Hotel for one night. Now, my parent's idea of a fancy dinner is Outback Steakhouse or Ruby Tuesday.

So, once they were at Grand Hotel I got a phone call. They'd been reading the dinner menu and had questions: what is wagyu carpaccio? What is a beef medallion? What is a bourguignon? I explained what all these delicious things were and they had a wonderful dinner.

Don't know if they still do it, but Island House Hotel at least used to have a big 'Somewhere In Time' event each year, showing the movie.

I've been a Platinum Pass holder for years, and living in Toledo, I could never justify the cost of staying on site. Well, after reading so many of these posts, and having some disposable income, I'll be staying at Breakers for the first time for 2 nights in June with my daughter. She'll be heading off to Cincinnati at the end of summer for college, and wanted to give her(and me), a great Cedar Point experience.

To those who have stayed at Breakers, is there any chance of an 'upgrade' at check in? Whenever I stay in a hotel, I ask if there are any upgrades or unsold suites, and about half the time, I would get a room upgrade.

Tomo Hibachi- my daughter loves sushi, is it a worthy dining experience?

We stay there every year in June. The place always seems extremely busy when we arrive in mid June, but who knows anythings possible. All they can do is say no.

Tomo Hibachi- We love sushi as well. I wasn't a fan of it a couple of years ago, but my son really wanted to go there last year and turned out the food and the experience was pretty amazing.

I personally have never stayed at Breakers but I have recently done a 2 night stay at DreamMore at Dollywood and loved every second of the trip. I doubt I'll stay anywhere else on future trips and for the price (about $180/night for April) I thought it was worth every penny and felt like a nice vacation. They also offered some decent incentives to stay at their resort. B1G1 free admission, free shuttle, and free timesaver passes, which is their version of FastLane. Anyone who has yet to make a Dollywood trip and who loves Breakers, do yourself a favor and stay at DreamMore!

That said, being a Cleveland resident I don't often need to stay the night at Point. But a 2-3 night stay at Breakers is on my list of things to do within the next few seasons.

Being thrifty and frugal with your spending is one thing, but saving all that money should allow you to live a little and sometimes that's choosing the $200/night resort over the $45/night motel! Don't get me wrong I am a priceline express deal junkie and typically stay at the cheaper motel more times then not! But when I'm on vacation I want to splurge a little! :)
