2013 Fireworks

We wanted to possibly watch the fireworks at CP this year, and I was hoping someome would have advice about where a good place to watch them is, and any ideas about how early we need to get there. We were thinking the beach, but i noticed a few (very old) posts said this was not a good place to watch-that Battery Park downtown was better. has anyone else watched from Battery Park, and if so, how crowded is it, and how early do you need to get there to actually park without having to walk a mile? Any advice would be appreciated-we have 2 little kids, so finding a good, easy to navigate location is important! Thanks :)

I have seen CP'S July 4th fireworks several times. But not in the past couple years. The park will be busy. I have always watched them from the CP beach.They launch them by wicked twister. The beach gets pretty crowded. We always park in the back and wait in traffic about twenty minutes to get to the causeway. I don't know about battery park. I would imagina that it would be a good spot as it should not be as crowded. But, personally I like being closer.
