Stickers on every trash can would look pretty bad though. I like what Holiday World has done. They've incorporated the "now smoke free" moniker into all of their section banners. It's done tastefully and I think looks better than a bunch of stickers on trash cans would look.
Then again, if the sticker was designed appropriately, I guess it wouldn't be too bad. I'm just picturing these massive white stickers with the red circle on them and "NO SMOKING" in huge letters.
Unfortunately, after interacting with thousands of guests this summer and finding out that basically every one of them leaves their brains at home, that may be the only way to get them to recognize it. I swear they also leave their ability to read anything important behind as well.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.
I am a smoker and please let me apologize for the rude behavior of my fellow smokers. I know that non smokers dont like it so I have always done what is resonable to respect their right to be smoke free while protecting my right to smoke.
I havent been to CP in a couple of years but when I was there before my wife and I always found a corner somewhere away from the flow of people, sat on a wall or whatever and enjoyed a quick smoke.
It is a matter of respect for others. Plain and simple.
South Georgia- Where you run the A/C and heater in the same day
I agree with Kyle, however I won't apologize for my fellow smokers. Some of them blew it for all of us. I too smoke in the park, but always found a corner next to a garbage can off the beaten path. I don't like to smoke around people and would never EVER smoke in line or in a crowd.
Now I have to walk to one of only four spots to smoke. Which I will say was hard to find at first. I guess I was thinking an area a little bigger. A bench and two ash trays. Whatever, how about an overhang and some tvs or other cool smokers hangout stuff. Anyway, it's Cedar Point's park and if they want me to enjoy my cig in a certain area, so be it.
I'll be honest with ya I am still going to smoke outside the smoking area. None of you will know where or when I do (the way it should have been all along).
Give it time it will work itself out soon.

smoking in places where people are working is illegal. That is the only reason for the new pollicy. All employers have to restrict smoking. The only thing i don't understand is why outside? Great American Ballpark has 0 smoking areas. But how many smokers go 9 innings, never see anybody smoking in their seats though. The companies have to hold up their part of the law or they get fined, so they all are doing their part. Outdoor patios at bars for smoking, it efects every employer not just cedar point. the point isn't going to get fined because the guests don't follow the rules, but the rules cannot change. talk to your congressman. I think if the smoking areas were normal areas ppl would sit in, and there were 2 more= no problem. you can always step 5 feet out of the park. there are 3 exits. But the areas are 2 benchs? most are. do you have to be sitting on them to be in the "smoking area"? larger areas would keep ppl in line better than alienating them. There is not one spot in the park duller than the smoking areas. It's like sitting in the corner, if outside had one. they can't be fined just because you don't listen though
Spent the weekend at the Point. I can't can't ever recall seeing empty cigarette packs laying around in the park. This weekend I found about a half dozen of them left on benches and planters in non-smoking areas throughout the park. I threw them away of course. It's bad enough to leave the butts behind, but this is blatant, especially with the all of those famous trash cans within arms reach of everybody.
While on the beach I noticed the amount of cigarette butts on the sand was only topped by the amount of seagull feathers.
BTW where were the gulls this weekend? I didn't notice any.
Actually, as we where leaving yesterday there were lots of gulls at the south end of the parking lot. That's what made me think back about not seeing any gulls in the park.
I think you are on to something there.
It seems they migrated from the north end of the peninsula to the south end since last week. At that rate I see them arriving at Castawa Bay, just about halloween.
This week will make 'em leave. Mid 50's for highs.

After the misery of the heat this past weekend, I am more than happy to see the temperatures drop. I suspect that guests could smell me coming before I got close enough to scare them. :)
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you

Park was crazy busy. Tons were smoking through out the park. I don't know were you would begin, enforcing all of us to obey the rule. The park was so busy, people were like, "whatever". I was one of them. It just seemed to be contagious. Most of us knew the rule, but when there is 15 other people walking down the midway in front of you with a light cig, whatever.
Don't worry, I didn't allow any nasty, stinky, horrible (will kill me before you) second hand smoke to touch or be inhaled by non-smoking patrons. I was at my secret garbage can in the corner.
I too have seen quite a few empty packs laying around. I found one in the Midway Market in a jar of dried noodles ?? My people are getting wild.

i was waiting in line for sky ride, and a man in front of us was smoking a black and mild while he waited and line and when he got on the ride.....ride op said nothing
Just got back and for ****s and giggles I thought I would see if I could make in the gate with a lit cigarette in plain view like I used to do before they started their new rule.
It's sort of a ritual to light up as I'm walking to the gate from the car in SC lot. So I was just about to put it out but decided I would see how far I could get. I walked up, put the lit smoke in my mouth as I used my hands to get my season pass out of my wallet. The kid scanned it and I walked right in. I put it out at the first trash can.
By the way, I like the sign on the underpass going into the park. Nice touch to spruce up that back entrance.
Not exactly a fair test, considering the person there was probably a Ride Pride...

Yes & no. I arrived late this afternoon so there were two people there. A seasonal and Ride Pride. The Ride pride was stamping hands for re-entry while the seasonal took my pass. For the first time ever I had an employee check my season pass to make sure it was me before he scanned it. It's not like he was busy either, he looked right at my face.
I'm beginning to think they are told not to enforce the rule. But this is one heck of a way to "break in" the new rule.
Sounds fair. To be able to walk in a PARK ENTRANCE, a place where you are guaranteed to encounter park staff is ridiculous. As far as I remember during my visit a couple of weeks ago, the people at the gates weren't Ride Pride.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

Ride Prides are most definitely used at Park entrances.

Doug, I think he was saying that the ones he encountered were not Ride Prides. Not that they are never used there.
I can also say that the employees at the entrance when I was there a couple weeks ago were not Ride Pride people either.

Well at least when I used to work there, I made sure they didnt let anyone in who was smoking. If anyone higher up saw we let someone in or out of the park not following the rules, we get in trouble, or I would anyway.
