2005 Season Pass Options

Shivering Tim, since the parks are in such close proximity, it makes sense to have one pass covering admission and parking at both.

Pricing details need to be worked out, but if they want to promote both parks, the best way to do that is to offer a (financial) incentive to attend both parks. Charging "double" for passes and parking seems counter-productive.

My recommendation would be the addition of a "super pass" option. This would include admission to all Cedar Fair parks, admission to all Cedar Fair waterparks, parking at all Cedar Fair parks/waterparks, and Joe Cool (or similar programs) at all Cedar Fair parks. You basically get everything Cedar Fair has to offer for one price. You don't need 5,000 insignias wrapped around the edge of your pass. It's a distinct color & design, immediately recognizable by any parking booth employee or gate employee.

At around $175 (less for seniors & kids), they'd hit a price point I could live with. Of course, they should continue to offer the individual park passes & individual park parking add-ons at the usual rates for those content to stay at their local park.

No confusing add-on decisions, no myriad pricing options, etc. They could offer some special benefits to super pass holders as well (above what they already offer to individual park pass holders and Joe Cool members.)

This option would also allow them to eliminate the current (confusing) policy of "most" passes being good at "most" parks (Geauga Lake exceptions, water park exceptions, etc.). A regular pass would be good only at the park you buy it from. The "super pass" would be good everywhere. That's easier to market. Simple to understand.

Hey, I heard a rumor that Top Thrill Dragster is sinking...

This is the way the Season Passes are being marketed at Michigan's Adventure in 2005:

Is the $85 they're charging for the 2005 Michigan Adventure pass higher than the (early, discounted) price for 2004? Might give a hint as to what's in store for CP pass price increases.

The fact that the MA pass will be good at all Cedar Fair parks tells me it's too late for my "super pass" idea in 2005. I still think it's worthwhile though, and would help simplify their existing (and somewhat-confusing) pass policy.

I like the idea of a single pass which includes all Cedar Fair parks, waterparks, parking, and any "Joe Cool" type program.

The $85.00 "earlybird" price is the same as last year. The price went up to $90.00 after October 31st last year.

does any other CF park even have a Joe Cool style program? thats the only drawback to getting my pass in KC, i miss out on the early admission when i go to CP. i wish KC (and the rest of the CF parks) would get the Joe Cool program, and it would work from park to park.

My thought on this subject is this, if you can use your CP pass at Knottsberry Farm and all the other CF places, why would Geauga Lake be a special exception?

If they actually made you buy an addon to go to GL, I would probably buy it since I am closer to GL than CP. However, that just seems really greedy and kind of stupid.

I hope for option #1, but if option #2 does happen, I will probably buy it.

You're kidding, right? Haven't we been over this? If a dozen people use a non-local pass at a Cedar Fair park, I'd guess that was a big day. When the parks are barely an hour away that number would be in the thousands every day.

Besides Cedar Point/Geauga Lake, what's the next closest pair of commonly-owned ("major", amusement) parks? I'm guessing CP-GL is about an 80 mile drive. Does anyone else have two parks even close to that?

The Disney Parks

(Land & DCA wins... but the World parks are close too)

But don't forget that Disney passes are a little strange too. Full of blackout dates and whatnot.
