Live Entertainment schedules for the 2005 season are available on the park's web site. Livin' in America is new at Centennial and Snoopy's Summer Vacation is the new ice show.

Historically, my wife and I have made 1-2 visits to Cedar Point, staying a couple of days each time. We would spend our time trying to get in as many rides as possible and ignoring the shows, given our relatively brief time that we were there. However, with the birth of our first child, I believe my visits to the Point will now be radically different, and will be involving less riding and more of a total park experience.

So, my question is, as a whole, how is Cedar Point's line up of live entertainment, and what are the shows that they do really well and should not be missed. Thanks for your input.

CP's shows are very well done. Not like the old Geauga Lake shows back in the day that were hokey/cheesy with "county fair" looking costumes.

The Snoopy Ice shows are really very good.

I am very glad to see Twistin' to the 60's coming back. That was my favorite show to watch and the cast was very talented.

The shows in Red Garter the last few years have been rather good.

All the shows are very well done, but I think my favorite is the diving show.

Depends on what you are used to regarding live entertainment.

The regular-season shows in the red garter, centennial theater, and palace theater are all pretty much the same thing with different tunes---song-and-dance routines averaging 1.5 costume changes per song. If someone says "think of a theme park show" this is practically the first thing that comes to mind. You could miss any or all of them and not lose sleep. None of them are bad, and they are nice for a break, but none of them will knock your socks off. The Red Garter show is usually the best of the three if you only want to see one, I think.

The dive show is entertaining as an athletic demonstration, but IMO poorly written. Lots of sophomoric humor and bad puns that either aren't funny or aren't delivered well. But, the diving is good stuff. This is worth ducking into, but again, you could miss it too.

The skating show is the one I would say you shouldn't miss. It's not a touring ice show, but there are a few nice jumps, and some decent coreography. Hopefully the new one will be as good as the past years' effort.

The summer spectacular does take place in the summer, but is "really quite nice" rather than "spectacular."

Bottom line? CP is probably in the bottom half of parks when you think of entertainment. As good as or better than most SF parks (though I thought SF Fiesta Texas was *much* better), not nearly as good as a Busch park, and not even in the same league as a Disney park.

Halloweekends, though, is a whole different ballgame. The shows are much much better then, and many are quite good.

I would love to see something a little more contemporary. I saw a show from Dorney a year or two ago that was contracted out. It had a substantial live band and a lot of players (outdoor stage). Really current stuff, perhaps a lot less "safe" than you're used to seeing at CP. I realize the family is king, but I think the teen/college crowd is a little under-served. The closest they came to pushing any boundaries or doing anything new was with Evanesence's "Bring Me To Life" last year.
