2003 Operating Schedule

What time last year was the Joe Cool stuff updates. Will we know soon or maybe have to wait till spring?

I am disappointed with the Halloweekend Friday nights. I drive down 2.5 hrs from MI because of the emptyness of the park. Now even though it is only one less hour, I may skip out on a few.

Darn...I was hoping for a return of something similar to Millennium Mania. Wishful thinking.

That is some wishful thinking for sure. I too feel the exact same way but alas I fear it is only wishes. :( I'd probably fill my britches if they announced the return of MM!

11/12/02--Pearl Jam released "Riot Act". 11/12/02 I went into Pearl Jam overload.

Once again, Opening Day is during my final exams. But I went last year and still got an A on my final the next day, so I'm sure I can do it again. Plus I've got JCC this year, so maybe that'll make up for the lack of midnight closings during the year.

The truth is out there...

Those midnight closings were/are a lot of fun. I would bring my family and check into Breakers at 4:00pm and be in the park for the Starlight admission. The park did die out around 11pm, but in that extra hour, we could ride 4-5 rides that have large crowds during the day on a Saturday or a Sunday and we could go on rides that we usually don't go on. This is a bummer.

The best thing about Six Flags "Worlds of Adventure" is that Cedar Point is nearby!

Browntggrr, since they give ERT to hotel guests, there is a good chance that you'll still get those rides at night.

And there's something to consider. Cedar Point will give tens of thousands less rides this year by losing that hour, and that's bad because a lot of people will hold out until then to ride. Now they have to do it at other times during the day.

I wonder why no opening for halloween. Maybe weather/labour problems do not make it cost effective.

Any thoughts?

I am very disappointed to see this hour go (although I can sympathize with the employees who are exhausted by then). Much of the magic of CP happens with the lights after dark, and for much of the summer, that only gives you about an hour of pure darkness to enjoy the lights.

This makes me begin to wonder how the Joe Cool ERT after closing will work. While I applaud it, I'm also a bit afraid. One of the best policies of Cedar Point is it's, "If you're in line, you ride" policy. That is to say, if you get in line for a ride at 9:59 PM and the park closes at 10:00, you can ride. I wonder about that policy with the new Joe Cool. They'll have to post someone at a ride entrance to check for passes, no doubt. But I wonder if this means that, on popular rides, you might only get one extra ride due to Joe Cool, i.e. you'll get in behind the "9:59" line.

I'm not complaining, just wondering. I hope CP never gets rid of their "in line by 59" policy, because it is really a sign of class. (Now, don't get me started on the "This ride will close early for the laser show" business!!!)

With all of these hours gone, think of how much money will be saved by The Point, though. Electricity, employee wages, ride costs, etc. will all be cut by around an hour. Could this be to try to gain back some revenue for future additions to the park?

...Denial is an ugly thing.

Just looked at the 2004 calendar. While it doesn't help us for the upcoming season, it looks pretty good that we could get (dare I say) a bonus halloweekend the following year.

2004 is leap year, which puts Halloween on Sunday, Oct. 31st. The 1st is obviously a Friday and that means folks, we have 5 full weekends in October. If CP follows their current pattern and uses the last 2 weekends in Sept. also, we will have 7 bonus weekends instead of 6. How delicious!

I dont get why it says that gates open to the puplic at 9:30 on days the park opens at 10:00. That means only a half hour for Morning ERT. I liked Morning ERT's Because The park was so calm. Now it will be like one ride on MF or #16 before gates open. Although the Halloweekends Changes dont really affect me because i never go to CP that late in the season anyway.

It seems with the JC ERT and Hotel ERT, and night rides for JC, CP is rewarding thier repeat and consistant customers by getting rid of the GP, in theory this would allow more special ride times (formerly open 'till midnight days) to Pass Holders with shorter lines. Besides MF it is hard to wait longer than 20-30 minutes in a line, especially if you can come back when the park is less crowded.

Maybe getting rid of the midnight close will encourage people to plan on coming friday or even Sunday, possibly dispearsing the crowd.

Well. Since i read that thing that this will be the biggest year in a 132 years. The schedule doesnt matter to me now. As long as i can go there and enjoy my time there. Personally i wouldnt want to leave at 1 Am With the JCC.

I am disappointed to see the midnight closings in July go, unless it is for JCC ERT, then I would be very happy. I'm surprised to see the 2 extra weekends for Soak City and that the park won't open Halloween weekend. I'd love to spend Halloween in the park. The earlier openings on Halloweend Sundays are nice, bucause I usually can't go on Saturdays.

I'm also surprised the tickets went up $2, I was honestly expecting it to be more. Also, if you look at the Challenge Park pricing, Rip Cord, Challenge Golf, and Challenge Go-Karts are all free. :)

I'm sure more people would rather be in the park on an early Sunday (which are always dead anyway) which now opens at ten instead of noon on Halloweekends than at midnight on Saturday.

ERT was only a half hour this year so I don't see any problems with that. In fact, there are still a few days in May when the gates don't open to the GP until 10, but on those days, ERT starts at 9:30. Personally I like when the gates open before the rides because most of the time, the crews have their rides up and running a few minutes (sometimes 15 or more minutes) before 10. There might as well be someone in the park to ride them! :)

I've also thought about the evening ERT and I have no clue how they'll implement it. I agree eith everyone here that they will piss off a lot of people if they do away with the "in line by 59" policy and I don't think they'll do that.

What I'd probably do if I were in charge is have the morning ERT on MF, "Dragster," and WT, and then have evening ERT on Magnum and Raptor. This way they wouldn't have to worry about long lines already in the queues at closing time for the night ERT's. Also, they have two of the "big draw" rides open in the morning which should disperse the ERT guests fairly well. They could open a third ride for the evening, but I have a feeling that a great enough percentage of people are going to bail out by then that it won't be necessary.

ERT on MF or Dragster at night is either going to mean only one extra ride because of the people already in lines at closing, or they are going to have to close those lines early. I just don't think that either of these things are in CP's best interest. Who knows though - maybe they'll come up with something that will work even better than what I'm proposing! :)

I wouldn't be suprised if they keep the lines open till scheduled closing time but allow Joe Cool members to ERT using the Freeway queue.

Really Bad: No midnight closings in July, or Friday nights during Halloweekends. No Halloween weekend. Just the perception of five-hour Friday nights in October makes it feel like less of a value.

Yeah, especially considering the way Bill talked at Coastermaina this year about Halloweekends Friday nights. It sounded like they wanted to turn it into a bigger event but could not because of staffing issue's. I don't see how cutting an hour is going to solve that, so it seems like a step in the opposite direction in terms of getting people in the park. I mean the toughest encounter I had in trying to persuade people to go those nights was the lack of time in the park.

Nobody mentioned this yet, but Notice also the first week of June how it's now open till 10 instead of 8. ;)

Well, at least they still are planning on keeping the park open from 12-12 on Saturdays during Halloweekends.
