1st time to GL: Best way from Detroit?

Is it better to take the Turnpike to SR-43, or to jump off at 480 and come in from the north side?

Thanks!

Well, I guess it's about the same. So the money savings would be taking 480. But it depends on when your driving. If any of it will be during rush hour, take the turnpike.

Acording to Microsoft Map Point, 480 to 422 will save you 10 minutes. But any ammount of traffic will likely negate that.

Yeah, coming from the west it's really a wash either way.

If you get off at 480 instead of Route 43, you'll save $1.40 in tolls each way.

I've always taken SR-2 until it turned into 90 and kept taking that to downtown Cleveland, then South on I-77 then East on I-480 then East US-422 to the GL SR91 exit.

Crue, I take the OH Turnpike east to exit 187 (Just look for the Geauga Lake sign on the turnpike) then 14 East (Stay in the left driving lane when you get on 14) to 43 North. Be sure to get into the extreme left hand lane when approaching the intersection of 14 & 43 because once you pass the gas stations and whatnot on 43 it goes down to 2 lanes. Then stay on 43 and watch your overhead signs. If you choose to park on the WWK side there are overhead signs that direct you to go a different way further up 43, like I said I just stay on 43 all the way and go in by KFC and McDonalds.

I made the mistake of taking 480 home once because I wanted to go to Great Northern to grab dinner on the way home. I will NEVER do that again. The traffic drove me crazy. Good luck on your traveling and enjoy your trip to GL.

The traffic is only an issue on weekdays during rush hour. Turnpike -> 480 -> 422 is the most direct route from the west.

we went to geauga lake (from the detroit area) last year and ended up getting lost i think we were like 20 minutes from Pennsylvania but on the very northern part of ohio, after stopping for directions we finally got there after four hours of driving(all Together), but geauga lake is fun though and it was worth it.

Thank you all for the info. Cya there and the Point this weekend!
