1995 Sky Coaster

In doing research for creating a historical timeline of Geauga Lake for my website I noticed that in 1995 there was a sky coaster located where Grizzley Run is now. Then in 1996 when Grizley Run opened, the sky coaster disapeared. The Geronimo sky coaster didn't open until 1999. So my question is this...

Is it the same one?

I do not recall a skycoaster ever being in the GR spot, all I ever recall being there were picnic shelters. I checked with another source and they agreed. It is possible that the 95 map was printed early and there were plans to put a skycoaster there but things didn’t work out and it was postponed until the 99 season.

Interesting. I am also noticing other minor errors on different years, like rides/attractions labled with the wrong number or no number at all.

I asked my brother (who worked there at the time). He was unsure but he thought it was a bungee jumping thing they had for a few weekends during the summer.

I remember it vaguely, I don't recall it's location and I was too young to participate but I do remember the lake having some sort of bungee jumping thing when my dad used to have it's company picnics. I'm not sure if this was just for that weekend though since it was when they used to do their little sports camp thing.

Anyone remember that?

Not me. The only bungee ride I remember is the Turbo Bungee that used to be next to Thunder Alley Speedway where the Yo-Yo used to be located. Then in 2005, it was moved to Happy Harbor on the Wildwater Kindom side of the park. But that is a combination Trampoline/Bungee attraction.

Was this an actual bungee jump rig? Or are you thinking this is something like Vertigo from 2001 at Cedar Point perhaps?

I've taken another look at the 95 map and compared it to the 94 map. It looks like they may have even relocated the "Special Events Area & Stage" to make room for the Sky Coaster and to make room for the new pathway to Pavilions 15 and 16.

If there was a skycoaster on the 95 map it was an error. There wasn't a skycoaster installed until the one was built on the current site in front of the B&M.

I do know that there were plans to put it in earlier that were held up because Bainbridge Township had height restrictions in that area of the park. From my understanding the park went to court and won the right to build the ride based on the fact that the park was there before the height restrictions were in place. This example is in part why I believe that height restrictions have little to no impact on what the park can build. Every case has gone the parks way in recent history.

That's very interesting. Looking at the 95' map there is something where Grizzly Run would be, and although you can't read the number you can see SkyCoaster clearly in the legend. *** Edited 1/8/2007 1:43:43 AM UTC by VGplay***
