#16 Love Thread!

I've been following this forum for around a year, but have never signed up until now. I think that some of the pointless analyzing should cease so that we can forget about what the ride is "lacking" and give it some love!
Remember when Expedition G-Force came out, and everyone was amazed that it was a 200 foot drop with a 90 deg twist in it? Well imagine going down a 270 deg twisting drop from around 400 feet! Not to mention being launched at God knows what speed into a 90(or possibly 270) deg twisting incline. This thing is going to create so much excitement. From the view of the ride at the entrance gate, to the view from the midway and in the line, to the ride itself; this is going to kick a**!

I'm sorry, I love Cedar Point.

Anyway, post your love for #16 here!

I agree with you scanz, cedar point does not owe anybody anything. Sure CP makes a lot of cash but they also do a lot for everybody. If you buy your pass at the end of the year (like I do) it is only 85 dollars for the pass plus 30 dollars for the parking pass. $115, plus tax is actually really cheap for 6 months of fun in the park. Also, they are building us another roller coaster, so who cares if it is a record breaker, all that matters is everybody knows its going to be fun as H*LL. So lets all enjoy it.
Yep, I agree. This ride is going to be insane.

The people that say they are disappointed are crazy.

Well the way I look at it is that we shouldn't even be GETTING a ride this year. We weren't even expecting a new rollercoaster until 2004. 2 new rollercoasters in two years is great, and I think we just need to appreciate that we're not only getting another ride this year, but we're getting the tallest fastest ride in the world!

You guys make a good point. Besides I can't wait to see how insane that launch will be!
(Bringing those up to speed that haven't been here for the whole drama, that is #16)

Evidence of #16 ride has been around since before the 2002 season started when employees sited a possible basement being built in the fenced in area, coined Area 51 by Jeff, possibly for a new restaurant.

Opening Day rolls around, and news gets around of the former Dodgem I area. People start to investigate the mysterious white fence, and spot huge footers which send up some red flags. Many people remain in a state of denial that it can't be for a new ride, and whenever anyone asks employees, they are tight-lipped about it because employees are directly told to not talk about the area.

As the summer went on, more and more evidence piled up that this ride was going to be huge. Anyone that read these boards at that time, and paid attention to the right people, would have gotten the details and magnitude of this ride.

Many people that hadn't seen the area for themselves were still in denial of this being a new ride.

This stage of denial was put to rest in mid-August when Intamin track is spotted back behind Mean Streak.

The two colors of track and supports prompty sparks rumors of a set of dueling coasters. No matter how much was said to try to put this to rest, there were just more people claiming that this would duel. There were also rumors of blue track materializing, which would make the ride have a patriotic theme, but it never happened.

Vertical construction started the first week the park was closed for HalloWeekends. Every week between HW's, the ride grew taller, and track was added to the structure.

One day, a rendering of the ride was posted on the Net. Many people took this as fact probably because it was an enthusiast's dream with around 10,000 feet of track. It looked like one awesome ride, but it ending up just being a good drawing...that's all.

There were so many people that claimed the ride would only be a 200 footer because it would be a clone of Xcelerator. Then there were those that would, and still do outright deny that the ride could be over 300 feet because that would "dethrone" MF.

Not only will it be taller than MF, it will most likely be taller than Superman: The Escape (415 ft) at SFMM in order to, once and for all, claim the title of tallest roller coaster. The ride could totally blow us away and be something like 450 ft. but this has yet to be proven or disproven.

What has been proven is that the ride will be an Intamin Rocket coaster than launches you around 1000 ft. and up a tower where you will twist 90 degrees so that you crest over it looking towards MF. Then you will plummet, twisting 270 degrees, ending up going the same direction you came from.

(This should bring many up to speed)

This ride is going to be one hell of an adrenaline rush. Between the extreme acceleration, speed, and height, I don't see how anyone can possibly be disappointed! It's gonna be sweet!

...Denial is an ugly thing.

Pretty much from the day i saw those footers, i pretty much knew it was going to be a coaster, by the look of the footers, not the area at that time...because it was pretty small. But the footers definatly pointed to a roller coaster.

Heh, I remember the original speculation about the footers... It made me giggle when they were installing new lamp posts near my home, with similar concrete footers :)

CP Bound, that's a terrific synopsis. I hadn't heard the restaurant rumor, other than the rotating one atop the tower.
Is it just me, or would anyone else like to see one of these puppies with a hairpin drop where you become slightly inverted for about 30 feet after the top hat.
I'd ride that, but I don't know about the GP. #16 may intimidate quite a few.

Scanz, I agree #16 should be loved, and I think CPBound really provided a great history of all the speculation over the last year. It is amazing, how even today, some are in total denial about what the ride is going to be. CPBound summed it up prefectly - This ride is going to be one hell of an adrenaline rush. Between the extreme acceleration, speed, and height...... It's gonna be sweet!

Disapointment does not mean we can not love this ride - I will - Disapointment is a reflection of one frequently over looked fact - the ride is also going to have strong (possibly extreme) deceleration !

The current record holder for speed is Dodonpa with 3,900 feet of track. #16 will be lucky to have half that amount, and in all likelihood, will only be slightly longer than Hypersonic.

I will love the height, the twists, and I will love going faster than 110 - I just wish I could go 110 longer than factions of a second.

Tom

Gravity...that would be great! Just imagine if only the enthusiasts were daring enough, there would be very little waits(depending on the # of enthusiasts).

The only prob is that people will still ride it anyway. My thought goes as follows:

If its built, tested, and proven safe, i will ride it. And, i believe that once the people who are intimidated start watching people get on and off, it will just create the 3-6hr lines.
