No! This is not another "I'm bored with MF already and I want to know what coaster they will get next" topic. I've actually been thinking that CP could lay claim to 15 coasters by counting Demon Drop as a coaster. Think about it. It is sent up a lift (albeit, weird one and released to travel the course powered by gravity with wheels riding on metal rails. Heck, one could even argue that it makes a complete circuit as the cars travel in only direction.
Back in the olden days when either CP starting playing up the "most coasters claim" or else when I started to paying attention to it, I remember counting the coasters and always coming up one short. I thought that maybe they did include Demon Drop. I realize (now) that I had been been leaving out Jr. Gemini, A coaster I always forget about.
I suppose that enough parks have a freefall ride that CP wouldn't gain much ground in the coaster race as many parks could up their count by 1 as well as annoying people who would be looking for that elusive 15th coaster only to find out that it is just the Demon Drop.
Are you on the PR staff at Six Flags or Paramount, Joe? :)

If anyone here has the book "Roller Coaster" by David Bennett there is a rollercoaster listing of all of the parks in the USA and the rollercoasters that are included in the park. Believe it or not Demon Drop is listed as a rollercoaster. Do I think that it should be included in Cedar Point's coaster count? No. But I do find it intersting that its listed as a coaster.

Against Ticket To Ride since day one!
Now let's not cheat on the coaster counting like PKI did. They claimed to have 13 coasters which would tie CP this year. They counted The Racer as 2 coasters. (Remember if they did this, CP would count Gemini as 2 also, which would give CP 14 the way they are counting, even without MF) Then they didn't count MF as a coaster since it wasn't open in April. They just wanted to claim that they had as many coasters as CP to have people that normally go to CP, think twice and possibly go to PKI. It was a cheap shot if you ask me.
Of course DDrop isn't a coaster. But one must wonder why. It has a lift hill, it is powered by gravity, and is a complete circuit.

Demon Drop is a Ride. It is classifyed as a freefall ride. Stop trying to turn Cedar Point into PKI. PKI are just haters. I don't see why though. They get a lot of business as it is. They have the tallest and longest gee golly wooden coasters in the world. But anyway back to the subject. I think what makes a coaster is that it has more than 3 sensations. Thats what makes it. Nuff said (I love when people say that)

how many other park have a ride like Demon Drop..as in the same design..not one of those towers..but a lift and complete circuit. I also think Gemini should be listed as 2 coasters.
I remember a long time ago it was argued to death if Superman is a roller coaster or not. I think Frog Hopper should be counted as a roller coaster :)
Here's my take on the Gemini/Racer issue: The PKI Racer is two seperate tracks with two different queues for each ride, qualifying it as two distinct rides. The Gemini has two tracks on the same support structure and one single queue, making it a single ride. Before you ask, PKI is my home park, but I find CP to be a much better park overall, so playing favorites isn't an issue.
Opposed to the Gemini that is a racing coaster that runs on one track? The queue for Racer used to be on if I remember correctly.
I wasn't saying DDrop should be a coaster I was rather asking why it isn't a coaster.

PKI's Racer should be one ride because the ride (both tracks) go under one name. It was designed as a racing coaster, and marketed as such. Racing coasters have been considered one ride for decades. It's only in the last few years that parks have taken liberties in counting the number of coasters they have.
The Gemini's tracks go under the same name also pete. You have red and blue Gemini, and the racer is foward and backward Racers. My point it that Gemini is on the same support structure, the Racer is two seperate supports. Since I failed to comment on the DDrop before, I will say I vote it as a coaster. It has a track, lift, and gravitational based movement. You could call it one of the first vertical rollercoasters (a little like Oblivion)
If I have my stats correct, Intamin does not consider any of their freefalls to be roller coasters.
[1st gen freefalls [Demon drop]
2nd gen freefalls [Roto-drops, like at SFGAm or PKI]
3rd gen reverse freefalls [Superman:TE]]
Racer starts out as one support structure and up until a few years ago both sides faced forward. Gemini's support structure also "separates" at the finale, station, and fist turn (before the lift).

Here is how I define A coaster:
1. It follows and completes one closed circut of track.
2. Car(s) are fastened on the track by some physical means.
3. Gravity or created power is used to get the car(s) to complete the circut.
Alright, looking at that, Gemini would be 2 coasters, and so would PKI's Racers. Also, Demon Drop wouldn't be a coaster since it isn't exactly a complete closed circut. Another thing, Superman wouldn't be a coaster since it doens't complete a closed circut.
Thats my classification, but who's to say? ;)
A racing coaster needs both tracks to be called a racing coaster, therefore it's one ride. If you separate the two tracks into different coasters you can no longer call it a racer. That's why I feel a racing coaster is one coaster, it would be incomplete without the other track regardless if it's on the same structure or not.
Demon Drop and Superman are not coasters...period!
All roller coasters are not complete circuit. Look at Boomerangs
