$10 Million?

Does a Giant Frisbee really cost $10 Million? I know CP is sprucing up the midway around the ride, but $10 Million seems like alot for some sprucing up and a flat ride. Anyone else agree? Where will the rest of the money go?

Go right through for MSU!

Infrastructure isn't cheap these days. That is probably why Cedar Point doesn't do more of it. See: Gold Dorms, Cedar's Dorms, Personnel and Purchasing Offices...heck...all offices.

What do the above have in common: No Return on Investment.

That seemed high to me to. What could a game renovation cost...maybe a million? So a Giant Frisbee is around 9 million? That's steep. It's amazing what rides cost these days...Magnum was only $8million when it was constructed, and now we have a flat ride being close in price.

There might be alot of sprucing up.

101 on Magnum and counting...

The annoucement never said anything about the ride costing $10 million, $9 million, or $8 million. All it said was that they were putting $10 million capital investment for new things for the 2005 season and maXair was the highlight of the season. They could be adding a new restaurant, repainting rides, or other improvements along with maXair. Though, they put more money into 2004 than they did this year I believe, even with no new ride, just Splash Zone.

Magnum was 16 years ago making it cheaper, but you have to look at the technology that the newer rides use. MF had the cable lift system, the tall structure, the newly developed braking system, the high tech train, and a lot of track making the $25 million price tag understandable. WT had two tall twisted spikes and a huge system of LIM motors that also seems understandable for $9 million. I'm sure you get where I'm going with TTD for $25 million. Now, Magnum had a chain lift a very well known technology, the first three hills are the only tall ones on the ride, and of course the fact it was 16 years ago. Finally, maXair has a motor that has to lift that giant boom 140' in the air and do enough times to get 1,000 pph on the ride, that cost money.

Not to mention the floor that lowers and raises. This isn't a ride that can just be plopped in easily.

As Gomez says, there are other things that may be done as well. I'm hoping, for one, they are replacing the seats in the MF trains with Dragster type seats.

I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead

Delirium cost around 4 million so maXair probaly does too.

$6 million is a lot for some paint, plywood, and lights! Maybe there starting 2006 right in front of us. If thats the case it must be at least 2,000 ft.. (sarcasm) *** Edited 12/2/2004 9:15:38 PM UTC by Fastball84***

Well if they paint Magnum (and they sure as hell better paint Magnum), that's at least $250,000-$500,000 right there. Weren't Mantis and Raptor's paint jobs in that range?

Heck a good sized restaurant can cost $1 million+; depending on equipment, size, quality, etc...

10 million dollar capital investment for 2005 wouldnt go toward a 2006 ride, it would go to a 2005 one. Who knows, 10 million could also include a destruction cost too. I would personally like to see some of that moolah go to DT for themeing.

Site prep for a ride of this type doesn't come cheap. Huss rides are not lightweight. A permanent ride of this type requires sustantial foundation work, along with the rerouting of utilities to and around the site.Permits and inspections at each step, all of them add to the final bill.

I even put at the end sarcasm and some people still can't figure out its a joke.
