Wow, some of the posters over there make even the worst ones here seem like geniuses! :) I know it's because they don't live for coasters and parks like we do, but still, I couldn't help but laugh at some of the posts!

That explains why CP's site was lagging so badly today...I figured it was just all the GTTP people, but no...they got /.'ed as well...

Who notes that the /. effect has killed more than one web site...

Well, /. has claimed another victim, as the site is down. Perhaps CP should have been more prepared for the massive load of hits they were going to get because of the announcement.

What is most anticipated event of 2003? the debut of # 16, the release of Metallica's new album, the release of Terminator 3, or the release of Matrix:Reloaded...tough call.

They got Farked as well. Fark.com put a link up, and anyone who visits fark knows they get more than a few visitors.

"Then there's Titan. A hypercoaster (300+ feet). Nice long drop, but then an actual ride. Again, a blast.

This new one almost sounds like Superman (6 Flags Magic Mountain) - cool concept, but almost a tech demo. (IMHO, Mr. Freeze actually turned the linear induction idea into a real ride.) Cool, and more power to them, but barely a coaster."

I say.....lol.

Ive been reading these forums for two months now, so dont burn me on this one saying I dont know anything about it either. (been obsessed for 5 years) Those people on /. where really annoying me talking like they knew anything. The guy said Cedar point has the fastest and longest rollercoaster in the us, and that gemini was still popular (but was probably decreasing somewhat) Ive been going to Cedar Point for 10 years, and it hasent been all that popular during this time.

PREPARE FOR STUPIDITY!!!

I've had my research projects get /.'d more than once. I've learned from experience to *never* read the discussion topics. In general /.'ers know an awful lot about an awful little, and assume that their authoritative knowledge generalizes to all subjects. (Kind of like professors, but that's another thread for another bulletin board.)

/.ers also like to outdo each other with their witty cynical dismissal of all things /.ed.

That said, the publicity from /. is great---many of my more distant (in the area-of-research sense) colleagues only know about the work of mine that they see on /. and then get in touch. Nerds like coasters, some have the money to travel. In fact, I've almost managed to talk the powers that be at USENIX to hold the "closing session" of the Annual Technical Conference at SFFT. ;)

I believe Gemini led in attendence for roller coasters at CP last year.

MF IS the longest Steel Coaster in the U.S.

In terms of number of rides given, Gemini IS THE most popular ride at Cedar Point. It's the two trains that do it. On a busy summer day where there is at least some kind of line at all of the major rides, Gemini is serviing 3,300 guests per hour. Magnum only takes care of 2000 per hour and MF can take care of 1600 per hour.

Wrong. MF has never done 1,600 pph. I think RideMan clocked it at 1,400, but that's the upper limit.

DELETED!

Yup, anyone who says Gemini isn't popular is smoking something. Ever wondered why there are two turnstyles at the entrance and two entrances to the station? Well, it's because the ride actually has higher capacity than a single turnstyle. The means that the ride can dispatch seats faster than normal people can walk through one turnstyle. They added the second one (and of course the second entrance is there) so that people can actually get to the ride fast enough so they aren't dispatching trains with tons of empty seats.

Sit in the midway and watch a six train operation on Gemini. It's nothing short of amazing the sheer volume of people that flow in and out of that ride.

A short line does not alway mean a ride isn't popular. In the case of Gemini, it just means that the ride cuts through its line like a hot knife through butter. MF's typical hour is probably around 1,200 people while Gemini's can be in the neighborhood 3,000. Magnum's typical hours are 1,600-1,700 along with Raptor.

Gemini, Magnum, Raptor, and the CP&LE RR all give more rides per season than Millennium Force.

A good example is at Disneyworld. Spaceship Earth at Epcot never has a wait more than 10 mins, but it can hull 3,500 pph through that ride. And there is RARELY an empty seat.
